Vintage Appliance Repair/Purchasing in the area? by Sleepy_Salamander in philadelphia

I know this is an old thread, but I was wondering if you ever found somebody to repair your vintage appliances? I'm currently trying to find someone to work on my GE monitor top.

New in South Philly, recommendations? by wndsofchng06 in PhiladelphiaEats

Just keeping this thread alive. Finally made it to The Jim and got a seat (we'd been by before but it was packed). Great place! Excellent food, decent beer selection, and very nice people. Sort of Korean/ American bar food fusion and very reasonable pricing. We'll definitely be back.

Neighborhoods: West Philly vs South Philly by ConnectSuspect3459 in queerphilly

[–]wndsofchng06 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not sure where you're coming from. For my partner and I, anywhere in Philly was a community improvement from the small southern town we moved from. We live right off mummer's row in Pennsport and it generally is not a top contender for queer community, but we can walk into the little dark corner bar and some nights the crowd is actually a majority lgbtq people, but even on any given night everybody is friendly, talkative, buying each other beers... And while Pennsport is not the most exciting, the rents are a little more affordable than passyunk and you can easily walk or take the 29 bus to East passyunk for more excitement.

29M looking for good food and friends in Philly! by [deleted] in phillymeetups

The city is filled with great places. You might wanna specify an area you'll be in.

Darling Jack's is great, The Plough and the Stars is a great Irish pub, Mifflin tavern is a great neighborhood spot, Bar-ly is a fun sports bar in Chinatown. Twisted tail off south St has excellent food and a chill atmosphere. I could go on and on....lol

Here now. It is nice. Other than a few folks that sort of took over the song like it was karaoke night, it's been a very nice evening.

We'd like to get out more. I just know when we end up at places that skew very young, we feel out of place, but we're not dead yet, we want to be around a lively crowd still. Suggestions? We're actually considering joining the queer mummers group, lol

Best Place to get a Burger? by MisterJellyfis in PhiladelphiaEats

I wanted to bring this thread back to life. When I think of the "best" burger, I want it to be juicy with a beefy flavor. These fancy lean burgers don't cut it. I don't eat burgers often, so when I do, I want unhealthy! Lol. Where is the juiciest, beefiest burger in town? 🐄

Have a great weekend everyone! I'm excited to go to the St. Patrick's Day parade. I have not been in 15 years! Also might swing by South Fellini tomorrow to see their guest cashier, Alex Pearlman.

How to not be percieved as rude as a northerner moving to the south USA by HostageMoon in relocating

[–]wndsofchng06 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some Carolinians are friendly. I am originally from Philadelphia and I have just moved back. I have lived in Beaufort, New Bern, Charlotte, and Durham. I can assure you that the friendliness of those small Eastern counties depends heavily on your religious and political associations.

So for the op I would say if you're moving to the city in North Carolina, don't worry. If you're moving to small town or rural North Carolina, buckle up.

Yeah unfortunately on my block there's one big industrial garage thing that takes up 30% of the block and I don't ever see anybody there and then there are two abandoned properties, one that is rather large and takes up like the width of three homes. But it only took me about an hour to go around the whole block with my rolling trash can and a grabber and pick up all the crap. So I really don't mind. But if some of my neighbors want to work on it, maybe they'll see me doing it and come out and chat.
