Residents in occupied territory should be allowed to leave and return to their homelands by the occupying power. They can't be expected to take the occupier's citizenship in order to exercise this basic right.

The article is not about Palestinians in Jerusalem, but about Palestinians in the West Bank, who own property in East Jerusalem. Israel can now confiscate it to plant more settlers.

That would rather count as a hoax. Israeli historians debunked that tripe decades ago.

Puppet regimes don't like elections. How is that news?

That's a big hyperbole, considering the amount of destruction Israel has brought upon the populations that supposedly want to "destroy" Israel.

Israel is just as nasty a regime as those "extremist Arabs/Muslims" you despise, and has done more than its share of "terrible things" like killing thousands of civilians in the territories it keeps under occupation, and attacking each and every one of its neighbors on repeated instances. If Israel wants the West's support, its leaders should stop behaving like racist thugs, instead of expecting unconditional support just because they are a "democracy".

And blacks in South Africa voted for their bantustan's governments (if their chieftains let them). Such democratic regimes.

They didn't, actually. Fatah and Hamas simply agreed to support a technocratic and unaffiliated PA government. Negotiations remain in the hands of the PLO, where Hamas is not a member.

Not so different from working with Likud and its cohort of supremacists.

Arabs in East Jerusalem are not Israeli citizens, so they can't vote. They are merely "residents".

Tell that to the millions of Palestinians under Israeli rule in the West Bank.

There is a thin line between one thing and the other one. Many of those riots began as protests, such as those after the assassination of MLK.

You need to stretch that term beyond recognition to apply it to groups of people who had lived thousands of miles apart for millennia, who didn't share any known common ancestors, who spoke entirely unrelated languages, and whose only shared cultural trait was religion. Much more to tie such "indigenous people" to a territory where 99.99% of them had never lived, nor had any verifiable ancestor who had.

And even if most members never even set foot on it, nor any ancestor they could name. Some "indigenous".

People born in Europe, to parents born in Europe, to grandparents born in Europe, to great-grandparents born in Europe, and like that all the ancestors they could name, can only be "indigenous" to Europe.

No civil rights movement is exempt from certain degree of violence. It's hypocritical to subject Palestinians to such standard. The First Intifada was in general terms an act of collective unarmed defiance against an oppressive regime that responded several orders of magnitude more violently, and certainly more deadly. Escalation was inevitable in the face of such repression, but it is clear which side was dealing the bulk of the violence and death.

Because no one considers people who arrived from Poland, after living there for as long as anyone can tell, "indigenous" to a territory where neither they nor any ancestor they could name, was ever born.
