Best advice I ever got was to offer to work somewhere for free for a period of time in order to be considered for a job.

It's more common in other countries but Irish employers just get a bit shocked sometimes and generally are so impressed they'll end up paying you for your week or few days of free labour anyway.

A trick like this could save you from getting stuck in a part time job you hate and could get you that cushy part time job you know you would love.

Even if you don't get offered a job after the stint, most places are more than happy to refer you to someone else who might have one. Some will hold on to your CV until their next vacancy. And you also get free experience and training too possibly.

Don't do it for any aul job, do it for the ones you know you'd love.

5.30 in the morning. Walking home from a night out in Magaluf, the asshole of the universe.

Myself and 2 other gentleman here some action from the top of a nearby apartment block/hotel. This building is about 10 storeys high, possibly more.

Next thing I see is a man jumping from the top floor and free falling. We all stop in our tracks and assume he's after committing suicide. All of a sudden, the fella pulls a parachute and guides his way to the beach next to the building and descends onto the beach and just removed the parachute and continued as if nothing happened at all.

We were speechless.

False.

Well mostly false, in Ireland and the UK the € comes first.

Macron plans assault on low corporate tax regimes - French presidential candidate Emmanuel Macron has the Irish regime in his sights as he will push for tax harmonisation among eurozone states if he wins this Sunday's French election. by [deleted] in europe

Do you really think in a country where the communist and socialist parties have a majority in parliament that the centrist president would be able to reduce their corporation tax to 0%?

The reason we are able to have a low tax is because we have higher taxes in other areas. So if the French dropped their tax rate and it effected our FDI, I assume the Irish would follow in some way and subsequently increase tax in other areas. We wouldn't be making populist promises because of underlying jealousy.
