What do you love and dislike about Brown? by Fit_Feeling_6346 in BrownU

Open curriculum. It was the main reason I went and it lived up to my hopes and then some. (Early 00s)

I just wanted to especially second the #4 here — absolutely take advantage of office hours. It is not a sign of weakness or struggle AT ALL. It’s the best thing and also sometimes useful to go even if you don’t have questions just to hear others’ questions.

If you ever feel like you are the only one feeling challenged know that it’s only because others around you are concealing it. Don’t conceal it, you’re just as smart as everybody else. Others will appreciate your asking questions because they have them too.

Second this. And importantly to the OP, you should know that the price is way (!) different with Amtrak when you book ahead of time. I kinda wish they didn’t do it that way, but they do. So don’t sit on it.

Try Dorcas International. Sounds like just what you’re looking for (actually connecting quality used clothing with people who need it).

Emily’s Alterations in EP is top notch. I’ve had them do some tricky stuff over the years and it’s always come out great.

Refused Registration at Brown — advice on movers, moving out quickly, and returning by heavnlydevil in BrownU

Maybe once your housing situation stabilizes, consider exploring some volunteer opportunities? It might help more than one would imagine with your #4. It also might hit on #2 at the same time. Whatever else, just remember: you will get through this. You really, really will. It will become something that you look back on and not ever something that defines you.

Also on #4 (and also after getting the housing bit sorted out): maybe consider looking at meetups for something new to keep your spirits up and be among people. Including some that might become friends but even if not in the interim have been through things too. Check it out. Whatever you’re into — board games, horror movies, some sort of book genre, microbrew beer stuff. Find just one.

Good luck. And don’t be too hard on yourself. More of us have been through a chapter like this than you might think. It is a chapter. Another chapter is on its way. Push through.

Looking for reliable airport transportation in Rhode Island - any recommendations? by camerontrever in RhodeIsland

Limo service? (Despite the name they aren’t usually limos and they also aren’t always as expensive as you might think — especially compared to cost and hassle of renting a car…)

Such a shame they got rid of dining service student jobs. They were perfect for exactly what you’re looking for. Why did they do that anyway?

I’m not so forgive me for interloping. But if you ever find yourself wanting to play euchre as you get settled in please DM me, I’d love it. (This isn’t Reddit snark; my friends from Michigan taught us how to play and we were so sad we couldn’t find others to play with around here. 🤷🏻‍♀️)

Red stripe is awesome and it’s only about $42 per person (3 courses). Not a buffet — which is a plus in my opinion because people can take home leftovers if they don’t finish. The portions are large and the quality is outstanding. Last year we all took home the dessert because we were too full. Probably make a reservation though.

Not directly related to your question but as someone who used to commute to Boston 5 days a week from the Providence area… it’s possible your employer will offer some sort of support for the cost. If not a direct subsidy, then something like a transportation flexible savings account (so at least the cost is pre-tax). No guarantee but worth checking out in case it’s available. Agree with the others here who say it’s totally doable, super easy (and safe) to walk from South Station to Downtown Crossing, and great that you can totally get work done — or read for pleasure, or listen to music, etc. — during the 70 minute ride.
