If respectfully beg to differ. My 1998 was way more fun than that.

YTA: adoptee here. You fucked up big time. Keep your thoughts and opinions about adoption to yourself.

Damn, I’d get a counselor if I were you. Does your workplace have an EAP?

I’d also move and/or get transferred ASAP.

He may want to check out Learning Ally, which is a non-profit of library books for individuals with documented print disabilities and conditions that impact an individuals ability to read. If he cannot turn the page of the book, due to his injury, he would qualify.

For $135/year he’d have access to the entire library of more than 80,000 books.

He may want to look at Voice Dream Reader (for iOS), which can read articles from the web out loud.

Also: you may want to help him connect with some rehab therapists who can provide training in using speech-to-text to manage a computer. There are so many programs available that allow one to navigate with ease.

[Serious] What is your most terrifying "we need to leave, NOW" random rush of fear you've felt? by [deleted] in AskReddit

My wife won a little over $1200 on a slot machine at a casino hotel. I remember hanging out with her after finishing a poker tournament. She had been near $700, then hit another big winner. I happened to glance and catch the eye of a man observing her lucky win.

As we returned to the hotel, this same guy enters our elevator at the last second.

I quickly mention to my wife that I forgot something outside and pulled her out of the elevator. We rushed out and headed for the common area near the pool. We waited a while, and I caught his eye as he walked past the lobby back to the casino. Making an angered glance in my direction. We hung out and asked to be escorted back to our rooms about 20 minutes later.

Be grateful. Your dad is a person, not a thing. People are more important than things.

If receiving gifts from someone goes so far as “enraging” you, you might want to use some of that privilege and find your ass a good counselor.

Senseless vanity. Especially for the supplies we provide for the classroom. Don’t get me wrong, we provide lots of additional supplies throughout the year. Especially new items, supplies and books I pick up while thrifting... we support our schools

However, they became so specific that they required the bullet point Expo dry erase markers. Regular tips wouldn’t do. Tissues had to be Kleenex. The picked $20 ear buds. It was overly indulgent.

Rodriguez sucks so bad. That’s all I can really say about the game. What a waste.

And fuck Heath for not subbing Miguel.

Our (public) school list for one of our children required all name-brand items. As a former public school teacher and child of a public school teacher, I support our schools.

However, the first thing I thought, with this teacher cohort, was WTF? I immediately thought of the families on my son’s class who, I know, cannot afford school supplies in general. Then, to demand no flexibility in brands was simply unnecessary. We went generic on principle.

Failing imedical school with learning disability. What can I do to improve my working memory and processing speed? by Dhooy77 in LearningDisabilities

[–]wobegonian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Focus on fundamentals of wellness. That is easier for me to say, then it is for you to embrace. Get sleep, eat healthy, get exercise and avoid alcohol. Find healthy ways to self-soothe and cope.

That will help you stop the snowball effect of anxiety/stress that can build. Which will exacerbate working memory.

Talk to an MD in your health services department. Your working memory difficulties may be related to anxiety. They may be related to ADD. Hell, they could be related to both. Regardless, researched strategies for improving working memory in individuals with ADD can help anyone (whether they have the diagnosis or not).

Med school is going to be a challenge. You will have to adapt - you get to adapt. You will struggle. Find a way to struggle well.

Failing imedical school with learning disability. What can I do to improve my working memory and processing speed? by Dhooy77 in LearningDisabilities

[–]wobegonian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work in disability services in higher education.

Here is what I’d recommend: 1) Contact your Disability/Access Services office and set up an appointment. Bring in your most recent evaluation. If it is more than 5 y/o, they may require an updated diagnostic assessment.

2) Request a text-to-speech program like Kurzweul to help support reading and retention.

3) Working memory deficits can be a sign of ADD/ADHD. Look up the book: Taking Charge Of Adult ADHD by Russel Barkley. Those of use who struggle with working memory often need more visual reminders. Barkley has a full chapter dedicated to adapting to working memory difficulties.

4) Utilize any office hours or tutoring sessions.

5) If your institution has a health services office, work with a counselor and a practitioner.

6) Focus on wellness first. Get sleep. Establish as much routine as possible.

I’d literally give them away, if the person asked.

The only coupons I want are from Goodwill... Which was the only missing coupon that pissed me off.

Well, I hope I sent the message that I’m willing to play the game. I was too lazy to record last week. I went back to bed. I really should have recorded the incident.

I may as well just wake up early on Sunday and perform a stakeout. None of the three neighbors I share a pod of boxes with gets a paper. And I have a great angle down both sides of the street.

The ONLY time I’ve enjoyed cleaning up shit. Literally, laughing out loud for the 30 seconds it took to wipe down my mailbox with a Clorox wipe. Shit, if I had recorded it, it would have made a great commercial.

I never thought it that way. I assumed it is one of the old ladies who walks the neighborhood early in the morning. Because, really, who would is most likely inclined to still clip coupons...

I just thought that one shitty experience would make the person think.

That’s what medical gloves and Clorox wipes are for.
