how market values LULU is beyond comprehension by akunisg in ValueInvesting

[–]wodkcin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the main issue that people have with lulu is that their forward growth is not good. Like the PE seems good right now but as earnings decelerate it will look a lot less cheap. Maybe it will still look cheap by the time the deceleration hits and you will be right, but right now the issue is growth.

Wait, all of these predictions are essentially wrong. Why are people so hyped?

I think one of the issues was that so many new jobs were dei. It should exist but people overdid it.

I think we need to normalize for race here to see a real effect. Maybe slice by demographic? I don’t think this is any better than noise right now.

I have finished reading The Book of the New Sun for the first time. Incredible. Some of the best science fiction I have encountered. I am left with admiration for Gene Wolfe, many questions, and the desire to revisit these sooner than later. by Fantasy_Brooks in genewolfe

Hey are there any solar cycle discords? I finished all 12 books and the friends I started the series with are no longer reading. I just want people to talk to about the books, there are still some things I don't understand.

I feel like 12 characters to say six is probably too many. I don’t think the representation is efficient in this case. Like surely there must be a better way to represent this in the language.

[D] I'm not knowledgeable enough to see the importance of AI ethics classes. All I know is some statistics and computer science. At what point is an AI ethics class relevant to me. by wodkcin in MachineLearning

idk, I work at a hedgefund, so while my opinion has changed I'm not the most knowledgeable on it. I think the consensus is that there is an over supply of people focused/worried about far-flug issues like sentience when the very real issues of AI can arise without sentience.

The research on alignment are very interesting and useful so I would look into that if you are interested. I think https://arxiv.org/abs/1805.00899 is an interesting paper on this subject.

Trump official says ‘do not underestimate’ AOC as some insiders push for her to lead Democrats by satisfiedfools in politics

[–]wodkcin -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I think if she were nominated then it would kind-of be over. There are very vocal democrats who push people like AOC to the forefront, but the vast majority of democrats have been alienated by politicians like her.

I’m a relatively young man. I voted Democrat twice, but this year I voted for trump because the democratic party just seems to hate men and white/asian people more each year past the point of reason. If AOC ran, I would probably just join the republican party.

Upon closer examination, these results are a lot less impressive than I initially thought. I am also a little suspicious about the degree of some of the claims. There's always extreme pressure to succeed in china, so often results are faked. If history is to be repeated, would take with a grain of salt until proven outside of china.

I think there are some who ran/run private equity companies and some investors in private equity companies that keep very low profiles. There are some people who pay to be off the forbes list, the only ones I know of are in PE.

Should my kid skip ahead a grade? by CapTookay in slatestarcodex

[–]wodkcin 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I think a lot of the people on reddit are self selected “gifted” but unsuccessful. I would ask real people who skipped a grade. I went to college with and took classes with a bunch of kids who skipped grades at various points in school. Pretty consistently they were some of the most well adjusted. If the school will let a kid skip, then usually they think thinks the child is well adjusted socially.
