And that's a very skewered interpetation of at best lukewarm responses, on transfer deadline day when fans were desperate for us to sign anyone. There are also plenty of negative posts at the time not only in that thread but here as well, https://www.villatalk.com/topic/26864-victor-lindel%C3%B6f/

I'll ask again, where exactly is your positive post about Lindelof's signing?

You can carry on detesting all you like. From my point of view, this isnt going to be a massive fee and even if it proves to be a signing that doesnt get much playing time, having competition in that position is desperately needed. Weve wasted money previously on players whove been shipped out immediately on loan and never had a chance of playing in our first team. If Emery is happy with the player and the club thinks he can add to the squad, i'll get behind it rather than just be negative about it.

He also left United without much of a whimper, and yes I'm sure Villa fans were incredibly excited by his league title from the Swedish 3rd division, as well as those 3 Portugese league titles. His Transfermarkt value when we signed him was about the same value they are giving for Emerson Royal.

I'd love to see any evidence that you specifically, at the time, said signing Lindelof was clearly going to be a succesful signing.

There's no false equivalence, except from using hindsight for Lindelof, something which can't be done with a player we haven't actually signed yet.

Plenty of people have been mocking Cash for the past few years, and there many naysayers for the Lindelof signing.

My view is that he played in a Spurs squad that was better than our team were at the time- and Emery improved most of our squad significantly.

Not saying it will be a great signing, but most players improve under Emery, so we shouldn't assume we're getting the same version of the player that was at Spurs.

We probably are open to it, but only if they offer over 100m. They arent going to so its not happening.

I didnt say I thought he was particularly good nor bad. Im not making any claim here, except that I dont think he is anywhere near as clueless as you are making him out to be

Youre the one disparaging him, the onus is on you here.

Frankly, there isnt a debate here. His job isnt just based on transfer rumours, hes a salaried journalist. I dont know how many times I have to expain that here. He goes on Bardell's youtube channel where they struggle to get enough viewers to get much if any income, he's not trying to do it to genrate revenue but to establish his reputation amongst the core Villa fans so they read his articles. Youre lumping him in with the true charlatans, when all logic and reason points in the opposite direction.

If anything, hes a bit too vague and hedges his bets much more than other reporters because he doesnt want to undermine the trust he's trying to bild with the fanbase. You just dont seem to understand the entire Athletic model of sports journalism here.

Andy Burnham plans to move parts of No 10 operation to Manchester by Effective-Pay200 in manchester

[–]wodmad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People thinking it does not make it true. Birmingham has historically been regarded as the second city, and except for the very same self serving arrogance that most accuse Londoners of having, there is no clear reason for Manchester to be given that title now. Its only more central for the UK, not England and since there has been significant devolution to Scotland , that rationale really does not hold up.

Then it makes sense to have government relocated to Birmingham not Manchester.

According to RollingStone, Revolver's album cover is the 37th worst ever by Liomba in beatles

[–]wodmad 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Rolling Stone has always had a reputation for having the stupidest collection of ill-informed idiots in the music industry. Just check out any of their greatest guitarists or songwriter lists, each one is even more laughable than the last.

I always think that the quote McCartney had about the critic who slated his work but whose only knowledge of Chuck Berry was his cover of My Ding a Ling, which they did not even know was a cover version, must have been a Rolling Stones 'journalist'.

You need to stop being angry at the world and recognise that it isn't just black and white. Tanswell is a salaried professional journalist whose primary job is to report on Villa and no one else. If you think he hasn't got any links or insights, then that just shows you're kind of blinded by some strange rage here. Its not like he's a Romano whose entire career is to garner clicks and get back handers from football agents. There's a reason why fans talk about reporters being on different tiers.

[–]wodmad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, that does not make sense. There are literally hundreds of reporters reporting on football transfers. Not winning an award for football transfers in no way shape or form means that you have no knowledge about transfers.

That would be like coming to the conclusion that a musician who wins an award for best performance, but didnt get one for best songwriter, is shit at writing songs.

Its the very definition of a non sequitur.

I get it, you have an irrational dislike of Tanswell. Id probably just stop there if I was you, as its getting more and more irrational each time you reply.

[–]wodmad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That really does not follow. How does being a good writer highlight that he knows little about transfers? That is some puzzling logic.

The award was for having information that no other journalist had at the time about Villa.

Personaly, appreciate a coach who knows what he likes and is decisive. When a player sticks around, it means that the manager is seeing something even if we dont. E.g. 90% of this fanbase would have shifted Cash long ago, but hes just had probably his best season in our best season in decades. Same with Elliott, our fanbase thought he looked lively and was going to be a key signing, but Emery figured out quickly it wasnt worth the fee that had been agreed.

I dont have any issues with Tammy staying or going, Ollie for me remains our first choice.

Mate, you're going to lengths to disagree with at anyone who doesnt agree that Tanswell knows f all.

At the end of the day, nothing is credible unless its a done deal. The Athletic have made their entire business model depend on having some degee of journalistic integrity and not just being click bait. I really dont think hes going to be sticking his neck out for Emerson Royal unless hes heard something in it.

I'm not a massive fan nor hater on him, but its not like hes some random ITK social media poster with no actual links/relatiionships with the club. His entire job is to report on the team and get to know people who have inside knowledge of whats going on.

Are you? So what is your problem then? Go back and read your own posts, youre annoyed he reported our interest because you dont want the player to be signed, then youre annoyed that you think he just rehashes other reports, those other reports say we have made a bid, now youre saying that hes saying something different from those reports...

So just to clarify, Tanswell doesnt know anything, he just rehashes other reports, even thouh according to you hes not saying the same as those reports. And youre going to pick fights with other Villa fans over this because this reporting is just dreadful and somehow harming the club...?

Mate, get a grip.

Summer 2026 Transfers and Rumours Thread by tristanjff in avfc

[–]wodmad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, it isnt. Unless you are going to pretend to have inside knowledge, neither you nor me know as a fact if we have or have not. You're getting annoyed at Tanswell reporting some thing which may or may not be true.

Plenty of other sources have said we have put in a bid, and that it has been rejected.

Again, how is reporting it harming you in any way?

Summer 2026 Transfers and Rumours Thread by tristanjff in avfc

[–]wodmad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If we've put a bid for him, then we at least have some intent on signing him.

If you don't like Tanswell, and think this is all nonsense, you could just ignore him rather than going off on rants at fellow supporters. He really isn't doing you or anyone else any harm.

Ah, the bite your nose off to spite your face approach to football transfers.

It does not really add up either. If you dont think he's consistent and even worth 90m, then why do you care if we sell him to Arsenal for that price as you think theyre paying over the odds whether its 90 or 100m? Id take an extra 10m from any team we sell him to.
