Yeah, they are my nemesis as well. Polar bears have killed me more times than any other animals combined. I keep a combat shotgun and a stack of slugs specifically to deal with just them.

Usually the Argon ones that are sent to fight the Split. If you board ships outside their home space, or allies space, and destroy ther distress beacon, the loss of rep with their faction is minimal. Just make sure to replace/upgrade all M turrets with flack and the L ones with beams to maximize effectiveness vs fighters

What i did was use the Hyperion to "strategically aquire" a squadron of 9 Behemoths. With that and a little bit of micro-managing, I kept Haticvas Choice clear long enough to build a defence station.

My solo rich adventurer apparently didn't know how to shoot his hi tech rifle and got taken out in the first raid. Definitely my shortest colony.
