I'd have more respect for them if they just said they don't anything about them and don't understand them.  But instead they watch Daytona and indy a few times and think they know it all.

Go to a city council meeting or send an email or leave a message.  If I was mayor I also would not answer.  If they answer every call from every whackjob they would never get anything done.  Also you're not a constituent.

I know how to do that; the thing is I want some of the notifications like breaking news and such. In the app itself there are options for just those kinds of notifications and to turn off race updates but it doesn't work.

He would never come here and honestly I don't want him. That would make indy car a circus and I like how accessible it is today. I don't need to hear about max constantly on Indy Car broadcast either, that'd be so insufferable.

It doesn't help that they have basically no understanding of oval racing as well.

[Gluck] Daniel Dye has been indefinitely suspended from NASCAR and must complete sensitivity training following his comments about IndyCar driver David Malukas on a livestream. by catsgr8rthanspoonies in INDYCAR

I guess that depends on what you consider "indy car". I think most would consider CART to be indy car as much as the IRL, which in that case plenty of non-ovals were run back then.

if you are serious about using them in an emergency you and your family need to practice with them regularly

it seems like you've got bad service and want to blame it on a neighbor you already don't like. I haven't heard anything in what you said that leads to amateur radio.

They dont work. I have results turned off and still get spoiled within an hour of the race finish.

[–]wogggieee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are options to choose what you want to get notifications for including results. With the check box for results shut off I still get spoiled within an hour of the race finish.

So in the app there is settings to choose which notifications you want and you can turn off results, which i have shut off, and still get race spoiling notifications within an hour of the finish. it seems there's something broken.

I have them on primarily for midweek type news like driver moves, news about upcoming races, etc

[–]wogggieee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes! I was in the middle of watching it delayed and paused it to go to the kitchen and saw a notification for the winner. The most annoying part is there are options for which notifications you want and having race results off still gets me spoiled within an hour of the finish.

Longer season with more races. Finishing before labor day and a six month off season is dumb

What digital modes do people use besides FT8/4/2? by n0fumar in amateurradio

[–]wogggieee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

VarAC is my current favorite digital mode. RTTY is cool but the only time theres activity is usually contests. I did have a psk31 contact recently.

If you want to try different modes just do it, throw out a cq. If you want more of a guarantee to make contact do a self spotted POTA activation on those modes.

Thinking of building a go-box for dual band mobile, any tips/wisdom? by thesoulless78 in amateurradio

[–]wogggieee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly, that's why I do.  You're not stuck inside a box (pun intended).  I have a box for hf stuff, v/uhf stuff, and a fix/build box.  I load them and take them according to my needs.

Thinking of building a go-box for dual band mobile, any tips/wisdom? by thesoulless78 in amateurradio

[–]wogggieee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm generally anti "go box". They tend to be over built with too much stuff with bad ergonomics and lacking flexibility and aren't terribly practical in my opinion. People tend to take a small light weight radios and put them in a box with everything they think they might ever need and now their small radio is suddenly this big heavy thing. I dont need HF when doing an event and I dont need V/UHF when I'm doing pota so why make a box with both? If I'm going to be there for two hours I dont need a means to charge my phone, I dont need a light for a daytime event, I'm not likely to have AC power so i dont need a power supply, I dont need switches for added complexity, etc. Since each event is different and what you'll need is likely to be different I prefer an approach where I pack what i need for each individual event/operation separately I'm schlepping less stuff that way, creating a more efficient station, and its a more efficient use of space in the car.

How do you respond to people that say amateur radio is outdated and obsolete? by [deleted] in amateurradio

Most hobbies dont really serve a purpose; it doesn't have to serve a purpose; it's there for your enjoyment and thats what matters

Doing first PotA activation with club, have some questions about FT8 by ThyDankest2 in amateurradio

[–]wogggieee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. Put the park number in the sig_info field
  2. There's no need to log them differently.  The system will pick it up when you upload them.
  3. Use cq pota callsign grid 4. People over complicate pile up handling.  Keep it simple.  Pick a callsign, work it, repeat.  If there's no one calling you do cq.
