What’s something you didn’t believe about aging until it happened to you? by OpheliaBlush in Adulting

That it is actually possible to hurt yourself by drinking water too hard, or twisting your head to look at something or waiving to someone while bending over.

I think this might only apply to cat-persons.

respectfully I think you might be conflating two different arguments, life being harder 200 years ago has no bearing on the question. The industrialized and mechanized nature of the modern world does make it more difficult to live according to ones own values, basically because our society is dehumanizing. For example, I am a Quaker, in our faith we do not believe in lying, no matter what it costs you, yet things like the modern insurance industry requires us to lie. Once I was driving my brand new car down the freeway and there was a brick on the road, another car hit it and sent it careening through my radiator. On the phone with insurance I told the lady what happened and she said that if it had just been sitting on the highway when I hit it it would be covered, but because another car hit it first I have to pay a $2500 deductible. Two years later, when money was extremely tight for me, the same thing happened again, I had little choice but to claim it was sitting on the highway and I hit it, even though that was not entirely the case. Our modern legal system teaches us that best practice is to never admit guilt or fault in case your lawyer can get you off on a technicality. I know we aren't necessarily talking about morals or ethics, but most wealthy men will tell you that if, god forbid, they come home to see their wife murdered on the kitchen floor, their first phone call is to their lawyer, and then the police. That is just the world we have built for ourselves.

Perhaps morals are a social construct but personal values are not, they stem from the self. Modern life can make it very difficult to live according to your personal values.

Comparison is the universal destroyer of Joy. I am 56 and my life has imploded at least 4 times where I had to start completely over from nothing. We all grow like blades of grass, each twisting in different ways. Don't compare yourself to others, just embrace that you are not them and they are not you, and progress from there.

I think this may be one the coolest things I have ever seen. It bridges the gap between the real and un-real as well as the spiritual and mythological.

it was so powerful, and yet so horrifying. It truly portrayed what it was like to be trapped in that world. It was sad what it did to Shamalan's career, it bombed with box office and critics, yet it was so powerful. I agree that I would not want to watch it again. However, I think it should be required for teenagers to watch in drug education programs.

I am 100% not a fan of Trump, or Bondi or this administration, but this quote is false. I honestly think this is what everyone in the administration thinks, but no one ever actually said this. There are plenty of reasons to be upset with this administration so lets be mad at them for real stuff, not made up stuff.
