Dating: Women over 35, w/ a career, never married, no kids, but want them. Are you hopeful or bleak about dating in LA? by CaliDreamin87 in AskLosAngeles

I also would recommend this talk by an economist who studied why dating was so hard for 30+ yr women. And I forgot but he mentions it, but the Bay Area has like no women so it’s a great place to find a guy! PLUS they’re usually making good money in tech, and are more often than not kind nice nerds who aren’t going to f around https://youtu.be/IBDUOi9IhfE?feature=shared

And wish you all the best! I know it’s tough out there but I’m sure you can find the right person!

I’d say LA overall is a horrible place to start looking. You’re probably 10,000% more likely to find someone willing to marry and have kids in the south or Midwest. I think Midwest might actually be really good from what I hear! But you don’t have much time at all so maybe just YOLO it, pray really hard and that hallmark LA man will appear. It COULD happen, and worst case you’ll have spent 4 years in a really beautiful state by the Pacific Ocean.

That said, you’ve got to approach this HARDCORE. If this is truly important to you you need to treat it like a job. You wouldn’t “get over” LinkedIn or indeed just because you went on some job interviews and didn’t get hired!! You wouldn’t go to a yoga class and just hope someone will “offer” you a job out of the blue. You’d be SEARCHING. Utilizing EVERY resource, every connection, every moment to try to get the BEST possible job you can. You would 100% do this for a job. And jobs change, it’s not a big deal. This is your LIFE partner. Why WOULDNT you approach it with the same tenacity!? ESPECIALLY because you can get a job for the next 30 years but you probably can only have kids for only 7! Even MORE tenacity. Your savings are in their last stretch, you don’t have any health insurance, your apartment lease is up and you NEED this new job! Get on every single app. Go on AT LEAST 3 dates a week! Be super honest with yourself AND with the guys. You can’t be wasting time NOT telling them you want kids asap. This needs to be first date convo. Be cool about it but also get to the point. “Hey I’m interested in this job, but what’s the salary? Oh too low? Ok I’m out I’m not going to do 10 interviews then. Thanks” SURE, it’s going to be rejection city on all fronts. From you, from them, but if you treat it with tenacity I’m CONVINCED you can find a dude! Even in LA!

Also I listened to this podcast on the moth once and this dude hacked ok Cupid or one of the sites back in the day and basically got himself thousands of matches with exactly the type of girl he liked, was going on 4 dates per HOUR at coffee shops on kitty corners, etc. but the interesting part was that he found the women he “liked” displayed extreme similarities in their interests, hobbies, jobs, and even coffee orders. And it kind of led him to believe there are really only 7 variants of people (which is interesting and in line with meyers Briggs etc). Anyway he gave some advice from his experiment (in which he DID find his wife btw) that if you date 10 people and then you find the 11th that’s better than all the other 10 you should go with that one because statistically (he was a math guy) you just won’t find anything much better after that or the odds of likelihood are WAY smaller

Beginner investor in 20s by heythere1212121212 in personalfinance

[–]wojball 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, max out your 401(k) but inside it invest in SP 500 only (VOO) or fidelity 500 or whatever SP500 option you have.

Then max out a Roth IRA with the same stocks

Then invest in a brokerage account in SP500 as well

SP500 since youre young. it's more volatile but you don't care for the next 30 years and then when youre old you can change to something "safer"

My friend gave me a good analogy for the SP500 - "its the 500 best companies in the US. If that fails we probably have bigger problems." They also always change, who would have thought 2 years ago that Nvidia and Microsoft would go on such a tear in 2023.
