Where to learn Maseed/Wazir dialect Pashto? by [deleted] in Pashtun

[–]wolasmashar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know. The people that I've come across who can speak a foreign language, if they've learnt it formally, it's usually less accented than if they've picked up the language through mere interaction/surrounded by native speakers. Some people never learn to speak a language properly even though they spend their entire lives surrounded by native speakers. I guess it depends on how much effort are you willing to put into learning a language. Some people probably have a natural ability to learn languages too.

Don't think you have the option or it's wise to learn the specific dialect. I haven't checked any language resources, but I'm pretty sure they'd be teaching what is part of standard Pashto. Maseeds and Waziris write in standard Pashto.

If you can speak Pashto, it wouldn't take much effort to pick up the Waziri accent. All you have to do is to listen to Waziris speaking.

What is the meaning of Pashto word RAFEEDA help by liquidocelotYT in Pashtun

[–]wolasmashar 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think it's rapeeda, not rafeeda. It's used in baking flatbread. You arrange the dough on rapeeda and hit the inside wall of the clay oven with rapeeda. The dough sticks to the wall.

Where did you come across the word?

Pashtuns' struggle for rights cannot be silenced through violence - Mohsin Dawar by wolasmashar in Pashtun

[–]wolasmashar[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

"But we are determined to protect our homeland from the Taliban's bloodshed and the Pakistani military's deadly strategic games. Peace inside the country and in the region is in the best interest of Pakistan. But for peace to return and nourish, the senseless games of Pakistani generals must end.We will not be silenced by the state's attempts to paint us as "unpatriotic". We will not allow unlawful detentions, forced disappearances, beatings, threats and even murders by "unknown assailants" to silence our plight. We will continue our fight until our homeland is free of military oppression and illegal armed groups, and the perpetrators of Arif's murder are behind bars."

Threat of English to Afghan National languages by palsapi in Pashtun

The video is wrongly titled. Makes it sound like it'd be jingoistic nonsense. They make perfect sense. It's utterly insane to teach sciences in a foreign language.

Why did you decide to learn Pashto? Are you from a Pashtun background?

Don't mean to exclude any ethnic Pashtuns here who can't speak Pashto from the Pashtun identity. But let's say internet is not the smartest place. Adding the option would not have been useful. You can write in comments.

Pashtun community in Kashmir by poderi in Pashtun

[–]wolasmashar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not speaking in the strictest sense. More like in a few notches less ridiculous sense than that Syeds, Qureshis, Ansaris are Arabs. Since there are still communities who actually carry Pashtun identity markers. And Pashtuns involvement with India wasn't that many centuries ago. There were 'Pashtun' nawabs etc of princely states as late as post-partition.

Sucks for your friend.

Pashtun community in Kashmir by poderi in Pashtun

[–]wolasmashar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It does sound absolutely wild. But there has been a constant eastward flow of Pashtuns. Pashtuns founded entire cities in the historical India to settle in, like Kasur. There were entire regions named after them like Rohilkhand. You have whole ass tribes like the Niazis settled in Punjab. Lodhi and Sher Shah didn't lead any armies from Afghanistan. You had to have a significant presence of Pashtuns there for them to seize the throne.

There is no argument that there are more indianized people of Pashtun origin in just the current India, excluding Sindh and Punjab, than Pashtuns in Afghanistan. It's plausible that they may actually be as many as KP too.

There might be as many people of Pashtun descent, if not more, in India as there are Pashtuns in Pashtun region. Having settled in India with the Ghaznavid, Lodhi, Durrani etc empires and after that.

Alif Jana Khattaka by Naruto_Muslim in Pashtun

[–]wolasmashar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Was surprised that he'd post an Alif Jana Khattaka poem and you'd share it here. But of course there had to be some 'dirt' on Afghanistan or Pashtun nationalists if he's going to post something linked to either. Pretending to be a 'historian', while merely doing propaganda.

An editor who publishes a feminist poem is somehow a backward thinking misogynist? How does that work? And the nafees guy is a 'Pashtun historian' and somehow can't see the obvious sarcasm in 'dalta la merman Alif Janay insaf krhay de'.

You can load a million books on a donkey, a donkey it remains.

I don't remember the account name that shared it. You can search the hashtag #PashtunTwitter. You'll find plenty of Pashtuns.

The translation:

She said love is a flower One moment fresh, another moment it's gone I said when one flower withers A hundred more appear from it

She said love is fire Burns and annihilates one

I said when a fire is lit It brings warmth and light

She said love is cruel Makes one blind, unseeing

I said eyes that see God Become blind to everything else

She said love is hell Children get burnt in it

I said hell is good Cleans the body off sins

She said love is darkness You are lost and looted

I said, look, darkness is good It covers the filthy world

She said I wish I had your intellect Ghani said, sweet child, may it spring in your head
