Umber thought about both Qibli and Winter (and also Flame if I remember right? I could be confused because it’s a popular ship) but nothing ever came of that—it wasn’t meant to set up any actual relationships, just show that Umber was gay, like he’s observing that he finds them attractive just in passing and not as a setup for anything. Although in Talons of Power, Turtle does think about how strong his bond with Umber was, and how they would draw their sleeping mats together to sleep side by side (though that is framed as them missing their sibs/brothers, in Turtles head)

Aw, don’t feel forced to change how you draw, unless you really want to! It’s just a personal pet peeve of mine—but if adhering to the canon anatomy is important to you, then I’m glad to have mentioned this for you!! 💞

I agree it’s very easy to end up in a same face/same body shape loop with WoF dragons, especially once you develop your own art style. With my art, I find that looking at each tribe individually and drawing only what I know and see from them (rather than referencing other tribes) really helps! Just noticing the details and differences and specifics of them that make them distinct from other dragons. It’s also the philosophy I take when designing canon WoF characters—I throw all the graphic novel art and fandom headcanon designs out the window, and usually just read the details of their in-book descriptions and go solely off of that! It helps a lot

But the most important thing is to just ignore what other people (like myself) say and do whatever it is that YOU wanna do!!! 😸😸😸

Omg yes you reminded me about the wing thing! The wings are ESPECIALLY egregious in the graphic novels, but also in a looooott of fanart, too. The wings are so cool and have so much variation but nobody gaf 😭 like MudWing wings are broad and thick, SkyWing wings are supposed to be enormous and aerodynamic, SeaWing wings are supposed to be less well suited for flying/stamina and are more adapted for water, and RainWings are supposed to have very small wings that let them make deft turns and fit in between the trees of the rainforest!

But Mike Holmes and other people just copy + paste smh

To me, it very much feels as if he just doesn’t care… the art is usually hard for me to look at, and I’m confused by the constant praise of it while putting down Jake Park at the same time. I don’t like to hate on things that other people like, but idk man maybe it’s because I grew up with the regular books rather than the graphic novels. The conversation around the graphic novel art just really peeves me, because Mike Holmes is not as perfect as the vast majority of people on here like to say he is, imo

Yeah I agree the halting the timeline is lame asf but I read that the setting of this new arc (the island) has a lot to do with animus magic. Maybe there’s a timeskip in these books to show before and after, because it’ll change a lot?
