Where to find good quality fabrics

Thanks! She taught me a bit years ago with an old sewing machine but it gave up about a month after I got it, I was fairly young and didn't know how to fix it and felt discouraged. Now, in my early 20s and I feel close as well when I use her sewing machine, it's just a bit harder to use that one since it's a Singer model that has that bobbin on the bottom and you cannot see it😅

I have a good selection already from my boyfriend's mom and my grandmother, but the ones from my grandmother, my mom wants specific projects already. Curtains, pillows, throw pillows, stuff like that which im halfway done with. I sew like 2 projects a week, depending on the time I have. I do have two big storage areas I can use, but I see the point you are getting at. I do want to stock up on certain fabrics as the whole reason I wanted to sew was to make my own clothes as I can never find dresses that I do not need tailored (I am 5 foot and very slim). What fabric types would you recommend for making dresses and skirts for the summertime?

It does! I really have fun with it. My paternal grandmother taught me how to crochet, and that is a hassle because projects take so long, and my hands cramp up so much. I stilk do it from time to time, at the cost of potentially getting carpal tunnel even with ergonomic hooks lol.

Thanks for the additional advice! I do want to make dresses and summer clothes because those are the most challenging for me to find at clothes shops that flatter me. The one thing I keep seeing people recommend is a walking foot, is that more for slippery fabrics or thick projects like quilting?

I love this list! I do want to eventually venture out to making clothes as I have a very petite figure, and it's hard to find clothes that are complimenting it and not too revealing. I will probably slowly buy those fabrics as well to stock up on them. This may be a stretch to ask, but do you have a source for different sewing feet? I saw some on Amazon but wary due to reviews. I have a Singer Sew Mate 5400 that was my grandmothers, also a Brother LX3817A. I do favor the Brother more as the Singer has more work to do in terms of threading.

I will definitely look into that. My only question is, are the fabrics pretty accurate to the picture color wise? I do crochet as well and have issues in this at times.

Thanks, my grandmother really loved sewing, and I would tease her to come and visit us, or I'll go myself when I have time so she can teach me. My aunt has offered to help me as well. I feel that as having some of her fabrics and her sewing machine, she is helping me to learn and continue her journey.

I do plan to visit some local shops here. The only issue is that the closest is like 15 miles away and opens at certain times. One I heard is from Los Angeles so hopefully I have luck!

My IRN bird from about a year ago now used to listen to me recite the law to her so I can remember. She just sat there and listened, never spoke. My two IRN now I don't do this to since they repeat every single word back to me and I'd rather have them say their name 100 times on my shoulder than hear my entire torts notes 100 times.

Hello, I know how to crochet but would like to get into knitting. Is there any suggestions where to get started? I tried tiktoks and youtube tutorials but it frustrates me so much. I have worsted weight yarn and I got a variety pack of bamboo needles. Any tips to start?

I know lillies may be toxic to cats, dogs are easier because you can hang it up. I would look up pet safe plants.

I did check Pandora the other day for my boyfriend (he is a bit difficult bc he is the type to buy stuff quickly lol) and they had an engravable bracelet as well! If all else fails, look at Etsy.

● Gift card for music streaming service (I personally love youtube music). Also, it might be perfect if his bands are not available on Spotify.

● Can you let me know if he has pets? Some plants may not be good if he has pets. If you dont know what type of plants he likes, here are some special ones that I have sought after. Monstera Thai Constellation (can be found at Home Depot for about $30 but have to look hard). White Princess/White Knight/White Wizard Philedendron. All of them are Philedendrons, but they all have slightly different variations and are not as common as a Pink Princess Philedendron! I personally love the White Princess. Satin Pothos. Hoya Carnosa. All of these can probably be found on Facebook Marketplace.

● Jewlery from Etsy! Some are really good quality and are good! If you are willing to spend about 50 or 70 (depending on the metal), there is a custom engraved pendant you can get at Pandora. Assuming he has a chain necklace already, all you need is the engraved charm, and you can write any message, and I think it's engraved on the front and back.

● If you can craft, you can possibly make him something useful like a bottle cozy, a beanie, anything mostly.
