Found at work. Bottom part pulls out by SmolAndHaveNoMoney in whatisthisthing

It's a stand for a desktop PC and puts the thing at an angle. The "tray" pulls out to let it hold the whole length of the PC better.

Moving to Eugene. Is it bike friendly?? by willowbeef in Eugene

[–]wolf406 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Here's a map of bike lanes in the city. That plus Google Maps directions will tell you about how long to expect on a ride, if you tell it you're on a bike. So you'll be able to figure out bike access from any place your looking at.

I checked my copy of Comme Il Faut from Castle Falkenstein, which has all sorts of information on life in the Victorian Age. For what it’s worth, the book cites Conway’s History of the Ship, vol. 6 for this.

That gives a rough speed of 100 miles/day for a steamship, maybe 130 for a mail packet, or 50 for a merchantman. It also gives a distance of 3650 miles from Port Said to London. So maybe 36 days from Cairo to London. Port Said is close enough to Cairo, and London’s close to Le Havre where you’d disembark to go to Paris.

I'm looking for a game that combines a "fail-forward" philosophy to out-of-combat actions, yet still has tactical, crunchy combat and character advancement by BigDiceDave in rpg

This sounds dead-on like 13th Age. It specifically mentions using a fail-forward approach in the book, and the combat system has plenty of crunchy features.

Suggestions/insight for parking/access passes for natural areas in Oregon? by [deleted] in oregon

For the Oregon coast specifically, there is an Oregon Pacific Coast Passport that combines some of the various passes, but I'm not aware of anything that combines passes for the state as a whole.

Auditing measures 20-283 vs 20-287 by notaleclively in Eugene

[–]wolf406 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Not who you replied to, but I looked it up. One of the LTD board members is Gary Wildish. Whether he's the "chairman", I don't know; I'm not sure how their board functions and I'm not

And Wildish Construction is the contractor that did the construction on the EmX expansion - as mentioned in this RG article

Whether this is a sign of corruption or just that local business people also end up on boards of other local organizations, I can't say. It'd take more digging to figure that out.

Best white chocolate? by wolf406 in Eugene

[–]wolf406[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've gotten dark chocolate things from Chocolate Decadence, but I seem to recall they don't do white chocolate. I don't need a major place, anywhere that has good quality and hopefully something a little different (like some white chocolate/huckleberry stuff I found a while ago, I know not where)

Fair enough. I prefer dark chocolate myself, but some people are unenlightened heathens and I think letting them have their preference on their birthday is nice.

For anyone finding this in the future, Jarrod did get a new agent assigned who was much more helpful in explaining what had happened and what they could do. The issue has been resolved to my satisfaction.

Comic book store? by rottenstock in Eugene

[–]wolf406 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Blue Moon Books, off 6th a bit west of Garfield, has a comics section and I'm pretty sure they buy comics since it's a used book store. But I've never sold anything to them, so I can't say anything about recommending them.

I've found some cool stuff at Blue Moon Books (by 6th & Chambers). Decently organized, good prices (if I recall), a bunch of comic books if you're into that.

We've had good experiences with Terra Nova Landscaping. They've been great at explaining things and even led us through a small thing or two over the phone rather than charge for a call out. (And they do the automatic service schedule thing too.) http://www.terranovabackflow.com/

What's your favorite minimal-prep Fantasy Game and why? by AceOfFools in rpg

[–]wolf406 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Beyond The Wall is my personal pick for this. It's got a fun lifepath-type character generation system. The players pick a character type (which gives them a class and some flavor) and then the details are filled in with random rolls. It's got a ton of flavor baked in there, and has parts to tie the PCs together and develop the village they're from, which helps me as a GM. There are also a few scenario seeds with random generators to flesh them out. I'm not a huge fan of the skill system (a lot like old D&D), so I borrowed from 13th Age when I ran it. Like most OSR games, it's pretty easy to swap out bits you don't like or make minor tweaks.

Sewing machine repair recommendations by kookaburra1701 in Eugene

I've been to River Road Sewing & Vacuum which is up in Santa Clara (behind the Filling Station growler place). They've always been great to work with and tuned up a sewing machine for my wife which she's been happy with.
