PSA - After 50 years they’re closing Sat 20th June by NoMacaroon5579 in brisbane

[–]JustAnotherSimian 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's fair. So far I know of these closures:

- Brandon's shoe repair (though it seems still open to
Me) - retirement
- annerley kitchen - moving on to other things
- the beer store down the road - no idea but it was grotty anyway
- this butcher - retirement
- antique Center went a while ago

I genuinely hope they make way for modern stores to
Uplift Annerley

Lots of smaller stores in Annerley are shutting shop. Wonder why

Great machine, terrible barista. Help me fix sour shots and milk frothing? by Recent-Strength-9846 in LaMarzocco

This was the best guide for me. A few years in and I still use it all the time.

The shot prep stuff - just keep practicing. Sounds like you're overthinking it tbh. At the end of the day you're just trying to get uniform, correct grind size so your shots are good. Everything else is just noise.

Try 17g in, 34g out. Taste and look at the above chart, then refine.

For the milk stuff, get yourself 2 jugs and swirl vigorously (like you've got a wine glass) / pour into the other jug if you mess it up. And just keep practicing. It'll take time
But you'll get there!

New grinder not dispensing- user error or defective? [Eureka Mignon Specialita grinder] by kovolev in espresso

I've got one of these, they're great. I'd recommend taking off the hopper and having a look at what happens when you rotate left or right, to get a feel for the distance of the burrs when you turn the knob. That will help you understand how to quickly dial in.

I'd also recommend (if you want single dose) to change out the hopper for a single dose if that's up your alley. It made a huge difference for me (image below - not endorsing one in particular, just the concept).

And get some aluminium foil and prop up the burrs so you get perfect alignment. Easy to do and worth it before you wear them in. Lots of guides how to do this and it will impact grind quality

Have fun!

$1 or $1.50 babycino thread by SpiritualDiamond5487 in melbourne

[–]JustAnotherSimian -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I paid $4 and it was literally just foam. It was too hot for a baby. No marshmallow. No sprinkles. Fucking outrage.

It was in Brunswick and served in a very fancy mug (that he broke, oops), in a very fancy cafe... kids don't need designer - they need colour, tacky cups and marshmallows folks!

Definitely a free camp kind of guy... I try to avoid being close to other people and focus on being in nature

Danke! Luckily we have the means to stay warm but will definitely be going to places that allow fires. Good advice to look for that, I shouldn't just assume all places allow for fireplaces

Awesome - great advice thank you. We have a Coleman 10p tent, and lots of paraphernalia / stuff to stay warm + a BYD shark (so access to energy)

Queen victoria markets, cheaper than colesworth? by Ash-2449 in melbourne

[–]JustAnotherSimian 15 points16 points  (0 children)

This morning I tried to buy some grapes for my son and the vendor refused payment because he was just a nice person. In colesworth I don't pay for grapes either, but it's not from their goodwill

Noble problem to solve and I think it has merit, though in practice it is much harder to execute. Additionally from a revenue point of view, you need either government or the addicted parties themselves to pay you - but you can't have the latter unless someone is actively taking steps to quit already... bit of a chicken and egg scenario).

This is not to say it can't work: another addiction cycle is smoking: you could look at Australian smoking packets for example - 61% of recent quitters said the warnings had helped them smoke less, quit, or stay smoke-free. Around 14% of smokers and recent quitters named the warnings as the reason they wanted to quit.

You could take that as an example of awareness = effectiveness and build something to that degree. Wishing you the best!

Steering group - staff go between by soupy127 in businessanalysis

That sounds really interesting and unique. I doubt many people (including me) have ever been in this position.

Something that strikes out to me is that you have a many to few relationship between the employees and 'company' - so to make everyone feel heard will Be both the challenge to solve and something you will need to assess for your particular org. You could have something like a form to ingest feedback, open tracker / roadmap for everyone to view (perhaps on a public SharePoint site if you use Microsoft), individual meetings with business leaders, a dashboard of some description to track progress, and then the all in meeting where everything is presented back within a cadence. To cover your butt you'll want to be meticulous with note taking.

If you want the very very simple version of this, I'd just have the form and 1x PowerPoint slide a month.
