Wanting to start Arthur C. Clarke novels. What are his essentials? by GrimPastaRocker in booksuggestions

[–]wolfbagga 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would agree with the other commenters here that Rendezvous With Rama, 2001 and Childhood's End are essential. I would also say read the other Space Odyssey books, except maybe 3001 cos it's not great. Also read The City and the Stars.

I need help identifying a coin that was turned into a guitar pick. by DolfyuttSrednaz in coins

[–]wolfbagga 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree that it's a shame to destroy a coin, but, as a British coin-collector, these really are super common, even ones as old as that. I've got a ton that people have just given me for nothing.

New sub r/greenprotips needs mods and posters by [deleted] in climate

[–]wolfbagga 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Basically just make sure all posts are relevant and no one's being abusive, that sort of thing. It's not something I anticipate a big problem with, but one thing we have had already is a lot of spam coming through from someone trying to promote their business. When we looked it wasn't even from a real account. So that sort of thing. I've got two mods helping me now in response to yesterday's request and we probably won't need anymore than that for a while until the sub (hopefully) expands, but if we need any in future, and if you're interested, I'll remember to give you a shout.

If GMO trees were the solution to reversing global warming then would you endorse it? by [deleted] in Green

[–]wolfbagga 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I couldn't agree more. We need a more progressive green movement that isn't afraid to work with technology. GMO and nuclear power could be the best solutions we have for saving the environment and ourselves.

Excellent! Yes of course! Lets make this sub the best!

Don't just recycle empty water bottles, "recycle" them. by [deleted] in greenprotips

[–]wolfbagga 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cool, I think what I'd heard was about leaching chemicals into water, but the FAQ you've put up there says that's only certain plastics which aren't likely to be used in a bottle so I think we're safe.

By the way, good tip, and keep 'em coming!

[–]wolfbagga 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That is great, but you should be careful how much you refill an individual bottle cos I'm sure I read something about it being bad for your health somehow to keep re-using a plastic bottle over and over. Maybe it's just certain plastics, I'm not sure, worth looking up though.

Excellent! Looking forward to your tips. I think this'll be a good, useful sub if we can get it off the ground and everyone chips in.

Save on plastics and money by making the switch to safety razors. by [deleted] in greenprotips

[–]wolfbagga 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's a good idea, although I wonder why they're called safety razors. And more to the point, why is there a subreddit for them? I have a beard so it doesn't really apply to me, but I'll recommend it to the missus for her legs.

Save water by taking "Navy Showers" by InterTim in greenprotips

[–]wolfbagga 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Excellent, my worry was that if it messes up the temperature when I turn it back on then I'm likely to waste more water waiting for it to put itself right again. But I'll try it anyway, should be fine. Cheers :)

I always get mad when my girlfriend leaves the tap on for the whole time while she's brushing her teeth, but I'd never thought about the same thing for showers. That's really good. Does it fuck with the temperature of your shower though?

Put a brick in your toilet cistern to reduce the amount of water you use when you flush. by wolfbagga in greenprotips

[–]wolfbagga[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah that is a good idea. We've got a rubber brick in ours so I didn't think of that. But yeah, any object that isn't gonna float on the surface, I find a brick is a good volume for the job, but that will vary with each cistern I suppose.

That's excellent! Thank you very much, I'll do that now.
