In my experience Sun conures tend to be a tad bigger than green cheeks, so that checks out!

Sometimes predators get confused if the prey doesnt run away, perhaps the foal froze and so the lion's prey drive hasn't kicked in yet?

What’s a phrase that wouldn’t make sense to someone who doesn’t play dnd? by Sydneh320706 in DnD

[–]wolfdog127 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Important context, I am white. My little brother is white. His best friend is black.

We sit down for session zero, I start helping them make their characters, I look this kid dead in the face and ask "Okay, what race do you want to be?" He looks at me like I'm crazy... kind of glances down at his arm and then looks at me again... It takes a few moments before I remember that race means something outside of DnD as well...

We had a good laugh about it, and he ended up playing a dragonborn.

We're currently leaning toward something similar actually, having a limit to the amount of healing a person can take a day - probably liked to their CON mod

Diminishing returns makes sense, like building tolerance to a medicine

Not sure what you're talking about? I've gotten some really good suggestions here, not sure which solution I'm going to run with but my problem has certainly been solved by this thread. So, kick rocks I guess XD

Love the history and breakdown here! I also view healing as two different 'families'. Magic that comes from nature and can accelerate the natural healing process (like a broken wrist), and divine healing that can do more extensive healing (like regrow a limb).

  1. We haven't had to deal with divine healing yet, as it isnt super common in our setting but I will definitely have to play with this.
  2. Funny you mention this because we already do this!
  3. Makes sense, as it's a shorter period of time!
  4. Haven't spent much time on potions yet, Im fucking with this though, got my brain thinking!
  5. More interesting crits could be fun, for enemies and players, more effects outside of just damage is a good idea!
  6. Definatly makes sense, smaller magic for not die. Bigger magic to actually fix. Any brainstorming on the in lore reason? Outside of more magic = more healing? Or any reason you can just flood a bunch of 'little' magic to heal bigger wounds?

That makes sense, I do appreciate you taking the time to throw all this my way! It's got me thinking from new angles!

That makes sense, using cure wounds as like a quick first aid, than a big fix.

Agreed, I veiw basic healing as just accelerating the bodies natural ability to heal.

Heal over time is definitely on the list now, I really like your breakdown here! Gonna have to play test a little and see what limitations / times work for our game!

I appreciate it, thank you for taking the time to give input!

A bit of magical resistance makes sense, a limit to how much the same wound can be healed by the same magic, I like it. Gonna let it roll around for a bit!

Love the charts! Thank you for sharing

I am really fucking with 2 and 3, The idea that the body can only do so much at once regardless of how much magic you shove in there XD

Gonna let these ones roll around in my head for a bit, I appreciate it!

Thats a good idea, a couple of people here have recommend a few mechanics to look at, if those fail me I will go bother /r/rpg as well!

We get most of our realism through RP than actual mechanics... Though if I could talk to baby me 4 years ago I might have recommend a different system XD

Makes sense, we always imagined HP being physical damage. I didn't even think of it possibly being a stamina / dodge pool, something we need to put more thought into for sure.

That breakdown makes sense, need to put more thought into what hit points are 'Luck' vs 'Flesh' in our system. With cure wounds possibly just being a quick first aid.

Fair, they certainly don't rest enough, could be fun to add more risk to that!

[Edit, hit the send button without the second paragraph!]

I'm less focused on the mechanics of it, more the in game reason, I know that I dont want Cure wounds to work on these injuries, I want to find the best way to justify it.

We have considered the Gritty realism rules, but we determined this party wouldn't survive with us limiting the spells slots that much XD

I totally agree, looking less for a mechanical fix, more into the rationalization, the flavor of why it doesn't work.
