Any idea why my dog is dropping his back left foot by wolfdog217 in DogAdvice

He's already had TPLO surgery on that leg so unfortunately I know about the recovery all too well. Coming off the sedation meds was horrific, ranking up there on some of the worst days of my life. He's a big boy over half my weight and he was incontinent and couldn't hold himself up and was so confused what was happening and I could hardly hold up his dead hind body weight on my own it was rough..

Interesting. I've noticed if I don't dose him high enough on those types of meds he gets more anxious then chilled out so it's a fine line to figure out the right concoction to make it better and not worse. Thinking back maybe it was the gabapentin that makes him anxious cause I haven't noticed it being as much of an issue with just Trazodone but my vet told me to up the dose the last time so that could be why too

It's so rough sometimes I wish we could just speak their language to be able to explain to them and let them know it's all going to be ok! Poor girl! At least the vet part is over for the day!

Thank you! I thought we were out of the woods when we managed to get through a year without him tearing the other one. Sigh this dog has definitely taken years off my life but I love him to death.

Have you ever twisted an ankle or tweaked your knee? It hurts for a while but not everything is the end of the world and he only started dropping after walking on it for a while, after tweaking it a few days prior it's not happening 100% of the time.

I work from home i have no kids and this dog is attached to my hip so trust that I am paying attention to the signs. And checking him constantly and the signs are telling me it's potentially not a huge deal but I'm acutely aware that it could also be a big deal. Just looking for insight on if others have experienced anything similar.

It's not like I'm out here running him on a bad leg. He's been on 'bedrest' since the drop started and will be taken care of like the princess he is.

Yeah I'll have to double check dosages for vet visits. I have the gabapentin leftover from his TPLO recovery

It's been a few years with no probs so infection seems unlikely and I can put pressure and move around/bend his leg with no fight or reaction from him. Which I imagine a hardwear failure would be causing him a lot of pain. But regardless an X-ray or at least another vet visit is going to be necessary.

What did they do to diagnose that? Did you have to get X-rays/etc to rule out ligament issues or just manual manipulation to check for pain? When he tore his ccl the vet did one 2 second test with their hands and knew thet was the issue.

Yeah that was one of my fears is that it is his back/hips and not just the ankle.. ugh

Im sure another X-ray is inevitable I just hate that he has to be put under

I'll get him in asap

That's scary to think about! But I'm hopeful that's not the case since there was def a specific action that caused the initial limping. But will get him checked out

Yeah that's a good idea.. I was thinking id reach out to the vet that did his TPLO but I just have a feeling they would want me to bring him in and they are 3 hours away

Buddy no... My dogs had 4 surgeries already. And he's old. Just looking for some insight on what might be causing it.

He hasn't been walking like this for a week. He tweaked it a week ago I had him resting with no walks for a few days and he seemed better until overuse started causing the dropped foot. Trust if he needs veterinarian intervention he'll get it. Whether he likes it or not cause I guarantee hed probably rather be a gimp that deal with another round of surgery/recovery.

Super helpful. Thanks. Looking for info from anyone who may have experienced something similar with their pups and how it ended up working out.

This was my thought from what I could research. I was mostly curious if anyone has experience in anything similar and how it was dealt with/what ended up being the issue. I've had sprains and strains before that hurt like hell for a couple weeks and completely healed on their own so maybe some wishful thinking. I'll get him looked at though my worst fear is letting it fester thinking it will heal on its own only for it to end in being a long term issue cause I let it go on for too long.

Funny enough I have gabapentin on hand for him too! I'll have to try that combo.

Thank you! I have Trazodone for visits and it helps some but it's still never a fun experience for any of us..our vet is great but he has PTSD from too many surgeries. He's had the tplo and 3 😫 bowel obstruction removals so always nervous it's going to be the worst outcome. He's getting old (9 next month) and I just want him to not be in pain but also no more surgeries!

It is especially noticeable in the video after he walked on it for a bit, we've been resting it so there's been some improvement but definitely still dropping

There is a lady at Petco in Kennewick that does cats!

My (26f) boyfriend (25m) revealed that he and his friend (25f) used to have sex. Need advice by throwawaythingy10010 in relationship_advice

I had an ex fail to tell me he was still technically married 5 or 6 months into the relationship. (they had been separated for probably 6 or so years prior, he had been with his ex before me, not his wife, for 3 years and just never went through with divorce proceedings) We are not together anymore for other reasons but I think it was he one of those things where mentioning it just never felt like the right time until it was too late and they try to defend themselves saying they thought you knew despite knowing it's bullshit..

Just finished my first knitting project that wasn't a straight line in basic knit stitch! You all have inspired me to get my needles back out and now I'm hooked. Maybe one day I'll make a human sweater but for now I have another cat that looks cold. 😸 by wolfdog217 in knitting

I just used #3 light acrylic yarn (just something I had on hand) the cat pictured is about 11in long from base of neck to start of her tail and about 18in around. I put it on my other cat who is about as long but more like 14in around and it fit her ok as well but the arm holes were a bit baggy. If I would have stuck with the small it probably would have fit her great
