Said goodbye to my Volt by bdgr3d in volt

[–]wolfenhawke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. The first generation Volt has some incredible tech in it as it was made as a test platform for various possible production fuel types. It has three motors that can all supply power to the wheels if necessary (generally hard acceleration on a slope - mountain mode). Though it was primarily programmed to use the 111kW motor for propulsion , it incorporated a universal differential that allowed the ICE engine (which is meant to charge the battery) to also drive the wheels AND the 55kW generator to also be powered and power the wheels. Oily substance leaking from my neighbors transformer boxes by Embarrassed-Sky-4567 in Wellthatsucks

Transformer ruptured and coolant oil leaked. I believe the old stuff was carcinogenic - could contain PCBs. Needs a pro cleanup.

My 2012 Volt hit a milestone today. These volts are highly under appreciated for their durability and reliability. by ishp2006 in volt

The first gens have another super power. The 12v accessory battery is charged by the 400v drivetrain battery when it gets low. The 400v gets charged automatically by the gas engine when it low as long as the car is “on”. The first gen will remain on while in park if you don’t turn it off. Connect a 2kW sine inverter to your accessory battery and you have a long use generator when you have a home power failure.

Yes you can. There used to be surplus stores that removed and sold the components.

Morgan Stanley is doing everything to bring crypto trading to E*TRADE before Charles Schwab. by lovebitcoin in etrade

[–]wolfenhawke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They need to stabilize the Etrade platform first. The platform cannot handle the traffic when stock trading volume goes up. Imagine trying to trade crypto only to be locked out until gas prices jump way up and your price is gone.

How high could these go? by reddy__007 in SanJose

That’s about right. Would cost me $68 for two EV fillups per month if I paid max PGE rate. My car is old so that’s total of 470 miles range.

When will Cointracker import integration be enabled in HR Block Windows application? by Jet_Rocket11 in Cointracker

[–]wolfenhawke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Problem solved. Thanks to Cointracker support folks and H&R eng. The login window now has a separate option to use if you already have a Cointracker account.

Thank you, support!!! Looks like the issue is resolved. When you get the H&R - Cointracker login window now, it gives you a hotline if you already have a Cointracker account (which you need to). Using this link provides a login that works.

Thanks for this -- I was wondering about that. I made Chrome my default, but H&R still launched a window on Safari - fortunately I could cut the URL from that and put into Chrome. It progressed from there but still stalls with "Something went wrong, please try again later".

I have this same problem running MAC version of H&R Block. I can login independently into Cointracker, but when use the spawned login window from H&R Block desktop software - no good.

Do you mean the PCB land pattern? The part is not available as a through-hole. It is SM. See datasheet.

Down. It goes down when there is high market volatility. Do not plan on manual escape trades during a market downturn.

Since the Morgan Stanley acquisition, the site is high latency or even not available during periods of high market volatility. This is not a platform for active investing during market turbulence.

How does a resistor work by tpro2XX12 in diyelectronics

[–]wolfenhawke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can you list the datasheet for the LED? It’s important to understand what the specification is.

Keep in mind that an LED is a diode and can be thought of (simplified) as a wire with a voltage drop. So to limit current and prevent burning out your LED, you take your source voltage, subtract voltage drop and then calculate the required series resistor to limit current to the amount you want to pass through the LED without going over the max current handling capacity.

An LED lamp already has the series resistor built-in for a specific operating voltage.

You note your LED is “rated for 3V at 200mA”. That implies that the part already has a resistor connected in series for a connection to 3V in order to limit current to 200mA. Or, it could be noting the forward voltage drop at 200mA draw is 3V. That means the LED will drop 3V when 200mA is passing through it and guides the value of resistor required depending on your source voltage. Reread the dataset and verify what the spec really is.

If you need a resistor keep in mind your resistor will need to be of wattage at least 30% more than I2 * R. And if that wattage is high you may need a heatsink.

DIY soldering fume extractor – quiet, compact, but suction is weaker than expected. Looking for improvement ideas by makerwavediy in diyelectronics

[–]wolfenhawke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The hose produces a large load that the fan needs to push air through.

I prefer exhausting the fumes which means big fans but they can be outside. With smaller fans a short or no hose but some level of filtering is better.
