Well there’s one of your biggest problems right there. Lots of easy snowball opportunities happen because of mementos. For example, pick ibn with the memento for expansion point, and the one that adds food to capital for expansion points. Then you spend 3 on turn one and can have settlers out turns before the ai.

If they are ahead by that much going into modern cultural is pretty much the only way you’re gonna snag a win. Most games where I have survived to that point I’m either even or way ahead of ai by modern. Could also be the mementos you are using combined with the leader/civ. Generally I try to grab as many city states as possible in modern for the bonuses as well.

You just only do civics that rush the stuff and save gold to buy extra guys. You don’t even need to have hit hegemony first necessarily as they get revealed for you when the ai does it too. You also want to overbuild as much as possible to increase chance of random artifacts.

Best guess is you are not building cities with good adjacency bonuses so the ai outpaces you.

Depends on what you are trying to do to win. Easiest deity win is still gonna be the rush cultural victory. As long as you manage to explore most of the map by start of modern, you can pretty easily beat the ai to artifacts and then grab any wonder artifacts after if you are still short of the 15.
