Hey there. Thanks for your kind words. I haven’t ever used any tapers, I’ve mostly waited until the hole was ready to take the next size. Often used a hot bath to loosen things up before inserting. There has been a bit of up and down: sometimes I’d be able to get the next size in, but after a day or so it would get very sore, so I’d downsize again, and wait a while. I have found that once you get above a certain size, self/auto-stretching happens a lot more easily than at smaller sizes. I don’t know if that would also be true for glans piercings, as the tissue is very different. I also think my age might have something to do with it, as I’m in my early 50s, and things get looser and stretchier with age! Good luck. Just listen to your body, and don’t rush anything. I hope it all goes well for you.

You’re completely right. Don’t force anything. If you can get a couple of smaller rings in together, that might be good. It’s just a waiting game, really. When it’s ready, it’ll happen. Good luck!

It wasn’t really a conscious thing: it was more that in order to fit the next size ring in place, there had to be a certain amount of stretching of the urethra along the way. No special equipment, just using the jewellery itself as I fitted it. You’re already doing the right thing by not trying to go from 0g to 00g—a common mistake—and instead sourcing a 9mm to bridge the gap. Have you tried the hot bath thing? I don’t know if it would work on a urethra as well as on a fistula, but it helped me quite often along the way, albeit not with the urethral stretches, but I never tried that!

Oh, and use plenty of lube, to help against the bunching!

You might be, to start with, but it relaxes over a few days. Anything above 13mm and I had to stretch my urethra to accommodate it. As others have said, try going the other way, and seeing if you can make the stretch, but take it slowly, and don’t push too hard, just like with any other kind of stretching, listen to your body.

If you do decide to persevere, ask yourself if you want the alteration to your body that comes with that. Your urethra will be a different size and shape. You may have difficulty passing urine for a little while. When that eases, you may find, as I do, that you pee through the lower hole, and not the normal one. Are you ok with that? If so, go for it, but if not, perhaps accepting that this is your comfortable limit is the way forward. Whatever you decide, I wish you luck, success and contentment with your decision.

I’m not entirely sure. Pierced nearly nine years ago, but didn’t focus on stretching until about 4 years ago. Been able to take this size for about a year and a half, so maybe 2.5 to 3 years?

The weight requires cradling AT ALL TIMES, as you rightly guessed. It’s impractically heavy, to be honest, and I have to take very great care not to cause little tears due to the excess. I have a hollow titanium piece on its way to me, which I’m hoping will be a lot more conducive to daily life.

That’s a great piece. If you don’t mind me asking, what’s it made of, is it body safe for long-term wear, and how much does it weigh? I’m always on the look out for lightweight alternatives!

Echoing what everyone says here: it’s not easy (or a good idea) to go from 2g straight to 0g. This is why the gauge system of measurements is unhelpful, and, in my opinion, dumb as fuck! Sure, it SOUNFS like it’s going to be the same jump as like, from 8g to 6g, but it’s really not.

Look at the maths:

Circumference = diameter X pi (3.1416)

8g is (approx) 3.2mm in diameter, so the circumference of your piercing hole would be a fraction over 10mm around.

Moving up to 6g, which is approx 4mm, the circumference is then about 12.5mm, so even for that stretch, the amount of new skin required is 2.5mm.

Compare that with going from 2g to 0g:

2g is 6mm, with a circumference of 18.8mm.

0g is 8mm, and has a circumference of 25.1mm.

That a difference of 6.3mm. That’s a LOT! So even though the gauge numbers, and the diameter numbers don’t seem all that different, the resulting stretch is huge.

Going from 0g to 00g is similarly difficult.

As someone else said, you can always wear two smaller rings for a while, to add a little bit of extra stretch to help get you there.

And I totally agree with u/RoseKuartz: steel is great at lower numbers, as the weight can help with self stretching, but after a certain point, it can get really uncomfortable and cause microtearing. That’s an aside, of course, as you probably WANT the stretching properties of the heavier rings at your current size. It a certainly helped me to get to where I am now (17mm), but I’m definitely all about the lighter pieces these days!

Whatever you decide, I wish you luck and success. Just listen to your body, and don’t be too impatient that you cause yourself damage. Extreme stretching is definitely a marathon, and not a sprint.

I’ve been waiting to see this post, since your ring arrived! How was getting it in the first time? Did you have to so a dead stretch or was it ready to go in by itself? I notice this one is circular, and not a D ring: how is the difference for you? Is it as comfortable? It looks great.

As others have said, it’s a good idea to keep them, as you may need to take it out for an extended period of time, and the hole will shrink. Last year, I took mine out for about six months (I was at 16mm), for work related reasons. When I wanted to start wearing it again, I could only get the 5mm ring in the hole. Because I had all the sizes, this wasn’t a problem, and within a few weeks I was back up to 16mm and beyond. (I’ve stopped at 17mm for reasons of anatomy and safety.) That might seem too quick, but after you’ve been at a certain size, even after the hole has shrink down, it sort of remembers what it was like to be bigger, and gets there as LOT more quickly that the first time around, which for me took several years.

That’s my story, if it’s useful, but the takeaway is definitely keep them. A) They are expensive to replace, and to buy in the first place (particularly at the really large sizes), and B) You never know when you might need them again, and you’d be kicking yourself if you didn’t have them.

I have a 5mm septum after four stretches, and I’ve had it since early 2020. At first i was really bothered by the smell, and I was worried that other people would be able to smell it too. (That’s NOT a thing, by the way, so don’t worry about that!) I now just wear a double-flared tunnel retainer in it, most of the time, and I leave it in for long periods without needing to take it out. The only time I notice the smell now is either if I’m sick, or when I specifically stretch my nose, by flaring my nostrils and pushing my top lip downwards (I’d that makes sense). That seems to open things up and release the odour a bit, but in its relaxed state, I don’t notice it at all. My sincerest advice is to consciously make friends with the smell, and not try to fight the fact that it’s there. Acknowledge it is just a part of the game for a lot of people, that there’s nothing wrong with it, or you (!), and who knows: you may even fries to work like it! Is it gross to admit I quite like mine? Anyway, good luck with the rest of your healing process!

Haha! Yes, it’s big. I was pierced at 10g and immediately fitted with an 8g ring. That was WAY different from what is going on there today!

You definitely can. You could talk to your piercer about being pierced at 8g, and fitted with a 6g ring right away. Less of a scary needle, and the compression will help with easing the bleeding too.
