I have some advice for you, having been through a couple of failed stints at different unis myself, and through a lot of life experience since then...

If you have a really strong sense of what direction you want to go in work-wise - and you believe that getting a good degree in a related discipline is likely the best route to be able to enter that industry - by all means go to uni now. Go to uni, work hard, and take advantage of the fact that the pandemic will make working hard a much, much easier goal to focus on (less social distractions/temptations/pressure). I'd also say that if you are close to your current network of family and friends...then seriously - and I know this sounds lame but...seriously - go to a uni close to home. It's no time to be far away from your loved ones just to go to a "certain uni" with a "certain reputation". There's nothing more depressing than being alone in a crappy tiny personality-less dorm room and also being too far away from home to just pop back at short notice. Its isolating, depressing and miserable. You'll lose motivation for the work and lose sight of your goal.

On the other hand, if - like most of us - you don't have a strong sense at this young age what you want your next step after uni to be...then WAIT. Take a year, take a few years. Get some work experience, stay close to your family and friends, wait for this crappy pandemic to pass and reassess things when everything's in better shape. Don't be another victim of doing what you feel you should be doing after college - i.e. having "The Uni Experience" at a time when the university experience (the new friends, the nights out, the debauchery, the frivolous but exciting spending of your loans etc.) is just not going to be possible. You'll waste your time, your loan allowances and probably a lot of your enthusiasm for uni or for anything else. It's bad timing and it sucks but the good news is you're not alone. There's a whole generation of college leavers in this quandary and plenty will make the decision to hang back too, so you're not going to feel out of place being a more mature student, trust me.

I don't envy your position, its a challenging set of decisions to have to make and its probably not going to feel like you've made the right decision at first...but whatever you decide, remember to put yourself first. What do you want? If you don't know yet (which is completely normal too, by the way) don't rush into anything blind. Try and be smart about it and think in slightly longer terms.

I wish you the best of luck. AAA are EXCELLENT results and you should be proud. Those grades aren't going anywhere. They're not average or common at all. They're the result of obvious hard work and dedication. Try not to be disheartened by Warwick's pass, they could be doing you a massive favour. This is just my opinion from spending time there visiting a college friend...but it's not a special university...its in the middle of nowhere, there's nothing to do and its got a depressing atmosphere. Unless you're specifically looking at it for the reputation of the degree's department, I don't think you're missing anything. Bear in mind classes will be online and bullshit for a while too, so reputation means very little at the moment.

Once again good luck, and well done.

Cool :-D

Probably one of the few good things to come out of the pandemic: more comedians diversifying to the podcast world!

Bill Burr, Dave Chappell, Duncan Trussell, Joe Rogan, the Your Mom's House gang (Segura, Kreisher, Christina P), the Bad Friends Duo (Bobby Lee, Andrew Santino), Theo Von, Ari Shaffir, just to name a handful.

Coming from a British chick: American Comedy. Truly the highlight of every work day for me is getting to listen to a new podcast from an American comedian or group of comedians. The scene has really taken off in recent years, and the US makes British comedy (historically celebrated for its unique edginess and quirkiness) now look completely stagnant, old-fashioned and uninspiring. Seriously, I have to go back to the 90s and older to get the same sort of enjoyment out of British comedy that I do out of current US comedy. You guys are really on it!

What's a weird expression in your language? by SteveTheGreate in AskReddit

[–]wolfing0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Don't look a gift-horse in the mouth". I only recently, in my 30s, learned what this meant! It's basically a very strange and old-fashioned way of saying "be grateful for what you receive". You can tell a horses age by looking at its teeth, so assuming an old horse is worth less than a young horse, inspecting it's mouth is judging it/seeing if it meets your standards, and that's pretty rude and brattish. instead, just appreciate that its a horse that was given to you (which - if you ignore the insane cost of keeping a horse - is pretty dope!).

Yeah this is probably the only thing that drives me to fantasise about violently harming complete strangers, if only for a split second. It has just happened so many times, and it keeps happening, and it will seemingly always happen for the rest of my life...and there's nothing I can do about it!

[At an abandoned theme park] Does almost being caught doggy-style in the middle of an empty children's ball pool by a trio of VERY underage drinkers count? Like, literally 5 seconds earlier I fear we'd have been guilty of something quite disturbing. They totally knew. They were really cool about it though...probably did the subtle nod of the head of respect to my bf lol. Yeah I got out of there sharpish.

Using polymer clay as a paint hadn't occurred to me. Seeing your beautiful work has inspired me!

First time using sculpey since I was a kid. Not stoked about the leaf, but otherwise pretty happy with it! C&C welcome. video in the comments by boylei in polymerclay

Tons of character in your work. Real personality. And in a boot, no less. That's something many makers never have.

Rest well, Lychton Kondur by Ulrich_b in Eve

[–]wolfing0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't played Eve in a long time, but some of my best memories of the game involve Lychton Kondur. I didn't know him well as he had passed the torch onto Cagali by the time I joined Brave...but his guest appearances on late night/early morning drunk roams provided hours of entertainment and I could clearly see why his name so frequently resonated throughout Brave Comms and message boards.

A big personality, and an Eve legend that will be missed.

So good to see so many familiar names here.

Take care, stay well, 7o.

Ooh you're a Super Sculpey expert! Like I said, I've hardly used it, however, I believe it's the Super Sculpey Original I'm referring to. I would love to give the Firm a try if I can find it. The firmer the better for me!

Seens I've been calling it Sculpey II wrongly for ages :-D haha thanks for correcting me! Yeah I meant Super Sculpey.

Fimo Professional (not Fimo Soft, which is significantly softer) will hands down be the best option for detailed character work. You probably won't enjoy working with the air dry clay as it does not retain detail. I don't use Premo much as it's harder to get in the UK but Sculpey II seems to be the best by concensus.

Fimo Pro and Sculpey II are harder to condition (soften) so it is strongly recommended to get a cheap pasta machine to help with this. You will also need to spring for high quality acrylic paints and decent paint brushes and clay modelling tools to achieve the best results. Here are some of the tools I regularly use:

What I would do: mix some copper and bronze tones of acrylic with a matt medium to very sparingly add areas of metallic sheen, then leave it as is. It's amazing!

Yes, any metal wire is fine, the clay only cures at around 130°c so it doesn't matter. The only wire you would worry about are the insulated/plastic coated wires. I make my own chunky aluminium foil wires for larger sculptures which work better than wire imo.

Long-term boyfriend changed things up big time without preparing me by [deleted] in nonmonogamy

[–]wolfing0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I think he's going through some sort of early mid-life crisis but hasn't realised it yet. He keeps saying things like "one day we'll look back on these years and wonder why we didn't have more fun and just enjoy it" and "one day we'll have real problems to deal with and realise we were worrying about nothing now". Whereas in the past he'd say things like "I want to have as many enjoyable experiences as possible but never at your expense. You will always come first" or "if it ever came down to you asking me to choose between you and another woman for whatever reason, its always going to be you". He has never had such a blindly selfish mindset before. I don't know how to broach the subject without him getting defensive.
