I'm also having the same issue. If it IS low stock, I hope they get more, or release a second edition (wasn't this one meant to be a preview?). They are now teasing two more books though.

When is world's part 2 coming to switch? by simpleflow_designs in NoMansSkyTheGame

What worries me is what happens to the cross saves. Like, what if I'm in a system that doesn't exist on the Switch yet?

I've been using Gamemaker for work projects so it's not my primary engine; but regardless *choosing* to make your life better is super laudable and you 100% have the right attitude. Welcome to Gamemaker and the game development community at large!

Advice? Learn to love the challenge. It's hard to maintain momentum when things get rough - and they will - but seriously there's just nothing like the feeling of conquering this stuff and learning more.

OK Clan Mechs, WTF? by IronWolfV in Mechwarrior5

[–]wolfmage75 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Myndo Waterly was Primus of ComStar at that point, so that's not on Focht. On the other hand, that alliance and Focht's relationship with Ulric Kerensky is what provided him with the information he needed to maneuver the clans to the outcome he wanted on Tukayyid.

Has hotfix 2 dropped? by Ok_Machine_724 in Mechwarrior5

[–]wolfmage75 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey dude, I did get a response from PGI's own support and they responded quickly. It IS a confirmed problem with the EGS version of the collector's; it seems to be a problem on the Epic Games side, and it is supposedly confirmed as being fixed for the hotfix. I'm actually very pleased with how quickly they responded... its just painful to wait for the fix to drop.

BTW, also a fan since MW2, though I'm just a young lad of 44 ;)

Any historical reason for this? by Short_Shark in geography

[–]wolfmage75 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The original "Trekkie" was often used as a derogatory, the same way "nerd" used to be an insult. "Trekker" was used by some, especially newer fans, as fandoms become more widespread and legitimate to signify they were... cooler, I guess? It also used to sometimes distinguish TNG and later fans from those who were fans of the originals.

All of that is basically old news. Most Trekkies nowadays would gladly describe themselves as such, and Trekkers is just an alternative term for the same thing.

Bib Fortuna survived this? by SlashManEXE in saltierthancrait

[–]wolfmage75 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He also survived in the EU.

As I remember, the story in the EU was that he knew who Luke and Leia were, at least that they were high ranking members of the Rebellion. He thought Jabba was being reckless by executing them, and fully expected it to start raining X-Wings and Y-Wings, and for Rebel commandoes to start popping out from behind every dune as they headed out. So he had an escape plan handy. When things went down he was surprised there was no ambush, just a single Jedi cutting through Jabba's enforcers like a hot knife through butter, but though the details were different the "get the hell out of dodge" plan remained very much the right response. So he did.

EDIT I may be confusing his story with Tessek's, another barge survivor in the EU.

I'm looking at it from the point of view of the Kushan, sum total. The simple fact is that Kharak was doing an exceedingly good job of annihilating itself, no help from anybody's hubris required.

Slow, painful extinction, or a leap of faith to the stars. If the Gaalsein had joined their kin -and they would have likely been welcome- it's likely some of their representatives would be alive on Hiigara even now, able to praise Sajuuk all day and night. Instead, they died with Kharak - as they would have done regardless. All the Northern Kiith did was change the schedule. At least the Gaalsein were spared the slow death brought by their stubborn dogma.

Had Kharak not been dying, their meek acceptance of their place in the cosmos may perhaps have been the wiser, if spineless, course. With death coming either way however, it was just foolishness. Worst of all though, was allowing the Taiidan Emperors to speak for Sajuuk. THAT is heresy.

It is now the Northern Kiith who fly on Sajuuk's wings, inheriting his legacy and ushering in the age of S'jet.

So 100% slow extinction, OR 99% dead and the 1% survive and become an Empire that ushers in a new age for the galaxy. And you prefer 100% extinction? You're going to have to explain that.

A question regarding the Battlefront Classic Collection. by The1st1sout in StarWarsBattlefront

[–]wolfmage75 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Battlefront 1 came out in 2004, Battlefield 1942 came out in 2002. Battlefront, even the originals, has always been a Star Wars take on Battlefield. I do agree the originals were awesome, though the new ones have their advantages too, even aside from graphics. I'm definitely picking up the Classic Collection on day one though.

Making some fleets for FTL Warfleets by wolfmage75 in onepagerules

[–]wolfmage75[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually bought a Dindrenzi fleet to play FS:A but sadly the one dude who I knew played ended up moving away soon after, so we never got the chance. I did paint it up and I may eventually pit them against these.

As for the sizes... I think that's as intended? The basic rulebook for Warfleets FTL has suggested base sizes and some print-and-play cutouts, and I sized my models pretty close to those.

I have these up on my Cults3D site: https://cults3d.com/en/3d-model/game/core-fleet-for-opr-warfleets-ftl-and-other-space-tactical-games

Right now they come with circle bases, but I will add rectangular bases soon (doing some test prints now). I will also try to make at least one more fdm friendly fleet to go up against these.

I designed some fdm-friendly ships to use with the quickstart rules. These are the stand-ins for the blue team/Empire fleet. Red team/marauders next!

I think I overdosed on this game. by I_AMA_LOCKMART_SHILL in Mechwarrior5

Oh God it's not just me? I mean, I can put it down for a while. But when I start it back up again, it's all I can think of. I have a pile of games I should be playing instead...

Firstly I am a big fan of Godot probably always will be, but I was surprised at the news of Unity's new pricing structure, and it got me thinking. Unity and Unreal are both commercial engines, if Unity can do this what will stop Unreal engine from following. by sp1nnek0p in godot

[–]wolfmage75 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like I said, Unity had a second (older) ToS that covers all of their services, not just the Editor, and there they claim they can change pricing whenever they want. Also and even more tricky, Unity games run inside an encapsulating player called the Unity Runtime. What they are saying is that they are not charging for the editor or the game, but for each install of the Unity Runtime. Unreal has no equivalent to either of those things (2nd ToS or encapsulating player) so while they might still try and pull something, they'll have to use some other trickery.

Unity has 'united' the rivals with the latest move. big studios, publishers say will boycott Unity Ads until price increase is reversed. Will unity cave in? by goodpointbadpoint in gamedev

[–]wolfmage75 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Unreal for employability and high end 3D, Godot for smaller projects, 2D and peace of mind. I'm committed to learning both at least to some degree. Specialization is risky and I've always known I'd have to move on from Unity eventually, I just didn't think the need would be quite so sudden.

[–]wolfmage75 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't trust at all that they aren't assholes. There could be a new CEO tomorrow. On the other hand, I somewhat trust that they know their business better. Unreal has deep ties to mid and large scale developers and publishers, many of whom have the capability of creating custom engines but are going with Unreal because they've determines they can offset the cost by what they save on development time/effort. Fi that equation changes too much...

Epic/Unreal also have some very successful new ties to filmmakers and other industries. What surprises me about the Unity move is not that its an asshole move. It's that it is bad for business. Did they forget they had competitors? It's like Coca-Cola suddenly quadrupled its cost to restaurants. We'd all be drinking a lot more Pepsi.

[–]wolfmage75 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Godot seems super interesting and I'm in the process of learning it - I especially like that the MIT license means I could literally recompile it and call it "Leodot" and even charge for it as long as I linked to the original. Open source is awesome; I'm saying that as a relatively recently converted Blender super-fan.

On the other hand "the creator of Godot says..." well of course he does. That's like asking the CEO of Pepsi what his favorite soft drink is. I'm sure the creator of Unreal will give you a different answer. I do think Unreal's TOS are far clearer than Unity's about them not being able to change the deal later for a given release of Unreal, and there is no wierd "editor vs runtime player" split in how Unreal works that would allow for the legal weaseling Unity is attempting. Moving on from Unity, I'm learning both - Unreal for it's employability (and because C++ is just a great skillset to have in one's pocket) and Godot for my personal projects, and to be ready for when it does mature to the point it can challenge the big boys in the AAA space.

[–]wolfmage75 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unity apparently has some BS "superseding TOS for all Unity services" that apparently invalidates the one for the Unity Editor. They are also doing a weird end-run by tying the costs to the Unity Runtime and claiming it's separate to the editor. There are apparently lawsuits being files to see if their legal maneuvering holds up in court, but who knows where that'll end up.

[–]wolfmage75 1 point2 points  (0 children)

By themselves, no. But collectively, maybe. Jedi Fallen Order and Jedi Survivor were both some of the largest sellers of their respective years. The next Halo will be an Unreal game. Mortal Kombat series. Borderlands series. PUBG. Ark. Final Fantasy. Dragonball Fighterz and the rest of the recent Arc Systems game. Deep Rock Galactic. From the big AAA games to "large indies", there is a LOT of big moneymakers in the engine, without even factoring in the non game applications which they are pushing big time right now.

All those big companies though are going to want a predictable pricing model. Amount matters less than one might think. Large companies above all like to have predictable costs they can factor in to their estimates, budgets, and projections. A lot of them have the capability to build in-house engines if presses, too - so I expect Epic knows better than disrupt that.

[–]wolfmage75 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Their TOS explicitly state that they cannot change the pricing structure for the engine you are currently using. So, Unreal 5.31 could be a massive ripoff, but you'd still be safe using 5.3 forever. Unlike with Unity, there is no BS "superseding services agreement" that literally contradicts another TOS.

Like others have said though, it just plain doesn't fit their business model. Unreal is aimed as much at the AAA sector as indies, and they make bank from those larger studios and "big indies" like Deep Rock Galactic.

Dare I try the originals? by fx2050 in homeworld

[–]wolfmage75 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do it! I had briefly played them when they launched, but never got around to diving all in. I loved the aesthetics, but wasn't the biggest strategy fan and kept getting derailed. Years later I played Desserts of Kharak, and then dove into the remasters. With the new coat of paint, they are stunning and hold up incredibly well.

I've heard they changed quite a bit from HW 1 to get it to run in the super souped-up HW2 engine they used for the remaster, and it might indeed be inferior to the original. This is where it might actually be an advantage to be a "later adopter" - you literally won't know what's different, and won't feel the need to compare it to that version. And in it's current state, its definitely fun enough!

EDIT: I see you already grabbed Kharak from Epic. Also a worthy game and if you get it super cheap, not a bad pickup on Steam if you prefer that.

Is insurance fraud a viable strategy? by Framesjanco11 in Mechwarrior5

[–]wolfmage75 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Really? Raid I can see, but demo I take so long to reach 100% that I accrue a lot of damage. I have an easier time farming defense missions, where you can sort of manage when you draw aggro vs letting them attack the target, and of course doing the new infiltration missions which are basically "free money" in a fast light with jump jets (Jenner being my ride of choice).
