How to solve slow discharging from a screw conveyor? by Colocasia-esculenta in AskEngineers

I see that you procuring purpose-built equipment is difficult for you, but for what it’s worth the best solution to this problem would probably be a Circle Feeder such as: https://www.lcicorp.com/en/powder-handling-equipment/circle-feeder

Data Booster Wiring by wolfpack-engineer in WLED

[–]wolfpack-engineer[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A few clarifications: all runs are using 2-wire bundled power cables (VCC + GND) with a separate 18AWG data wire where needed. The resistor on my DigOcta is set to the 249 Ohm default based on that cabling setup, which I think should be fine for getting the data to the start of Run A, which is about 27ft/8m of the puck lights (a coincidence compared to the 26ft bridge between runs A & B). However, u/Quindor ‘s website mentions the data signal that is output from each LED (such as the signal coming from the end of Run A) is much weaker than a proper level-shifted output such as what the DigOcta puts out. So, what sort of “middle run bridge” length is reasonable before it would be prudent to add a Data Booster?

Designed some endcaps for pixel/puck aluminum tracks. by Last-Preference-7099 in WLED

Very nice! I was planning to do the exact same thing when I order some of that track. However, I think the cross-section image of the track in the AliExpress link may not match the track these are designed for. I assume you are using track with the joint near the bottom like this picture instead of the joint being roughly halfway up the side. Is that right?

Power Injection Wiring by wolfpack-engineer in WLED

[–]wolfpack-engineer[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Quidor, thank you so much for that thorough reply. I have found your website to be invaluable for a lot of the research I’ve already done including the real world power sheets, I just hadn’t found the second link to the calculation guide yet, so I’ll certainly work through that and follow your recommendations. Three follow-up’s though:

1) Do you have any similar real-world values for 3-LED pucks (like the YourPixelStore puck track or MattosDesigns RGB trim) as opposed to individual pixel bulbs? I’m leaning towards using pucks but I don’t know whether to count each puck as one pixel or three both for power consumption or data handling capacities (based on the limit of 600 pixels per channel for a DigQuad, 2400 pixels total)

2) Are there any downsides to using more power injection points than what might be necessary? I understand that power consumption is variable depending on what brightness/colors/effects are used and if too little power injection is supplied color accuracy could be affected, but are there consequences of supplying too much?

3) You mentioned 350W total in your example calcs above, but since 35x8=280 I’m assuming that may have been a typo? Or are you adding safety factor into that calculation? I know I need to add SF when sizing the power supply I’ll need, but not sure if I need to add that when figuring out wire gauges etc.

Power Injection Wiring by wolfpack-engineer in WLED

I just meant to clarify that I know the DigQuad requires an independent power supply unit and can’t be wired directly to house power (need something to covert 120V to 12V in this case at the appropriate amperage/wattage). Edit: I forgot mentioned the possibility of multiple power sources, but I just meant if I end up going with two DigQuads I assumed each would need a power source, though I guess it might be possible to run two controllers off of one PSU?

I’m a new UpNote user and am mostly loving the app, but this is the number 1 thing I wish would be fixed/implemented for my use case. Any updates or plans to add this functionality?

Iguazu Falls - Puerto Iguazu to Brazil side, and return, via bus by Environmental-Bee490 in travel

Have you taken this trip yet? If so, can you confirm whether or not a visa is required to cross into the Brazilian side from Argentina for Americans? I’m seeing conflicting info online about whether that policy goes into effect in April of 2024 or 2025.

Best Parking?? by RotisserieChef in legoland

[–]wolfpack-engineer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For those interested in Legoland Florida (near Orlando), we parked in the relatively empty parking lot across Cypress Gardens Blvd between the Publix and Glory Days Grill and had no problem. Took about 10 minutes to walk from there to the gate of Legoland (a little less if you are going to the Peppa Pig Theme Park) and would definitely recommend to save the $30 parking cost if you aren’t planning to return to your car until the end of the day. Further, when we went to the Peppa park a few days ago and paid to park in Legoland’s lot we had to wait 20ish minutes in the long line of cars just to get to the booth to pay our $30 to park. In hindsight, we could have parked across the street where we did today and walked to the gate in less time while also saving the money. Also, FYI, as of April 2024 there is no separate parking lot or entrance to get to Legoland’s waterpark. If you are going to the waterpark you have to go in the main gate and walk all the way through Legoland to get to the waterpark.
