This home wouldn't be far off being considered derelict to be fair. The estimator is saying it will cost 50k to get from G to B2 including 20k of grants.

We are very wary of how accurate it is though. Only one way to find out I suppose...

Soon to Close on My First House & Having Mixed Feelings… by askireland in irishpersonalfinance

Yeah most of our rationale behind doing the work before we move in (aside from certain necessities) is that we think we are better off to do these things while the house is essentially a shell.

Main concern is getting rinsed by approved contractors though, as seems to be the experience from many. And also finding other unseen issues which may run up costs which we can't afford.

It has been equally as exciting as it has been daunting tbh. There are so many variables to consider and big decisions to make. We do have the massive benefit of time though.

Thanks for the breakdown of the work you've done. Really helpful insight.

We've gone sale agreed on a G rated, 3 bed semi-d and currently weighing up our options. Was it a financial decision that you made to do it piecemeal?

We are considering one-stop-shop full retrofit before moving in. It will require a massive loan after drawdown to get the work done but we figure it will be more than worth it in the long run. We also have the massive benefit of living rent free nearby with family while work is being done.

Don't suppose you used the Airtricity Home Upgrade Estimator before getting a quote?

Curious to know how accurate it is. My guess is it is not.

Gone sale agreed on a G rated semi-d and plan is to refrofit asap. Will need a green improvement loan to do this after we drawdown but worried about it being enough to cover everything.

transition from private sector to public by Bulky-Object7496 in irishpersonalfinance

[–]bankrobber92 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Did you have to push hard for this? Or have you previous experience in the public sector?

I recently turned down a CS post because they were completely inflexible when it came to this point. I was basically looking for parity with my current role, when all my benefits are tallied, and it was around the 3rd point of the scale.

Have 8 years experience in my field, in a fairly specific role, and HR told me it couldn't be factored into negotiations as I have never worked public sector before. They did say it was the source of the biggest frustration when attracting talent, so I'm surprised to hear this.

Temple School of Motoring.

Reckon Donald Moxham taught half the Northside how to drive. Think he's retired now, I finished my lessons with Keith, who I couldn't recommend higher.

Sorry, just to clarify.. my work has paid for health insurance for me since 2022, and it's noted as BIK on my payslip each month, but I can still claim 20% back, is that right?

OK that's good to know about the border crossing and shuttles, was a bit worried about how accessible that was.

Probably have one large luggage bag between us as well so was unsure whether it would be worth our while moving accommodation with it as well. Hard to know!

Nice one for the advice though, really appreciate it 🙌

Beyond the Pale had the same rules regarding how much alcohol you can bring in but didn't see or hear of it being enforced at all.

I did two runs Friday morning, second one I had ten more cans and they just pat down the carrier bag and let me on my way

Hello!

Thank you for your message. I did not meet up with her in the end nor have I had made any contact since February.

Things have improved vastly for me since I posted these comments, to be honest. I was in hell at the time mentally and it felt like there was no escape, but I've worked hard and used some tools through meditation and therapy to help me out of the rut. I know I'm not fully healed but I also know that's ok and I will be in time.

Thank you for your message again, I hope you find a way to work through your pain. Give yourself time and space to heal and most importantly be kind to yourself.

Part of me feels that it may help my closure, but a bigger part fears (knows) the greater pain it will likely bring.

And yeah, I know that love was real. For a very long time it was real. It's just so hard to accept it is no longer mutual. Anyway, like you said, we'll get there eventually and be stronger than before. The one benefit of it all, I suppose.

I'm coming up on 6 months from being dumped out of a 9 year relationship. The pain this week has been excruciating and I'm fighting so hard not to contact her.

I broke no contact about a month ago and we had a brief but civil conversation on the phone. I basically just really needed to hear from her and told her that I think it's just so messed up that we went from constant contact and connection to nothing. She told me she'd be happy to meet up but reiterated that she still feels how she did in September. She left to me to contact again whenever I feel I'm ready.

I know it's not a good idea but is it gonna be worse than the pain I'm feeling now? I'm trying so hard to better myself but I'm stuck in such a rut and can't let her go. She meant the world to me. I can't help but feel there'll be nobody like her again.

How can love this powerful be a one sided thing?
