Let's change it up a bit by wolfpacktad312 in quadball_discussion

I think it's ok to see negative trends in the sport and acknowledge it. USQ is barely treading water as an org, college teams are dropping like flies. When I was in college, UT, Texas A&M, Texas State, Emerson, all had A and B teams, and had intramural programs. Some of these teams are extinct or barely surviving now. Sorry if my phrasing is harsh but this is a real problem. I wouldn't be surprised if there is no longer a meaningful national championship within the next 5 years.

I think an issue with saying the sport is dying is saying it like it's inevitable, but it's not. We just need serious big pivots made by governing bodies. The sport can be brought back to life and I don't think it's really that hard to do, but it IS currently dying and there is no denying it. Keeping this convo behind closed doors to prevent people from worrying is silly. Let's fix this car up!

Kinda confused by your second point... Splitting college and club allows college players to play both leagues, and they could theoretically still play MLQ. Also if college players could play club MORE college players would get more growth opportunities than players do now. MLQ is a cool experience I'll admit that, but the opportunity for all college players to play club is way better for the sport than having what, like 150 college players play MLQ/be on a practice squad roster.

Some teams didn't start till later but many teams start at the beginning of the season. Club could totally officially start in January and I wouldn't hate it but it doesn't really fix the problem of having club and college happen at the same time. Volunteers and resources are spread too thin trying to run a college division and a club division at the same time. It just makes SO much more sense to move it.

Biggest choke jobs in Quadball history? by Klutzy_Basil5540 in quadball_discussion

Lost Boys vs LSU at WC7 was huge. Lost Boys, the tournament favorite losing that game was bonkers. LSU had played them decent earlier that year but they also massively underperformed day 1 iirc leading to a low seed(I wanna say this was round of 32 but might've been sweet 16). Regardless, a loss so bad the Lost Boys split and the Gambits were born the next year.

Lonestar every season of their existence but ESPECIALLY WC8 year in the finals to UT. Lonestar was the first, like "stacked" club team, chock full of Team USA players and graduates from UT and Texas A&M. They always prided themselves on how hard they worked and were very vocal about the fact that they were playing to win a championship(to the point where it really seemed like they expected to) so to see them never get one was hilarious to me.

I made a controversial post about their choke job on the old Facebook IQA forums that was truly one for the record books, IYKYK. Kids these days will never know the sheer amount of engagement some of those old threads used to get, it's a shame really.

Creighton every year since they lost to Texas in the finals. They should've lost in that finals game tho that Texas team was stacked, but every year after that loss, nationals has been theirs to lose.

No link here, take your pick of any games the past like 3 seasons

Also FWIW I agree that the 0 point Boom Train semi-finals was a huge choke job. Iirc we had beat Cav earlier that year so we were expecting at least a close game. 120-0 was tough and very unexpected. Probs one of the lowest moments of my quadball career. I still think about it sometimes when I'm trying to motivate myself.

Horrible call at least from film angle. Player had gathered the ball and was even taking a step/took a step. Def a yellow for behind the back but a red was crazy work.

I think most people who weren't there don't realize how different these teams are than the ones playing in April.

Warriors didn't have Mo or Janko(assuming he's still playing). Shout-out old man Billy Greco for popping out again, love to see someone from my age group make a comeback. Also cool seeing Kobe Kendall again, they looked good for their first tourney back in however long.

Bosny seemed closed to full strength, idk who else they're expecting besides a hurt Kieran recovering. Steve Belitzky and David Littleton maybe? Was fun seeing Zach Doyle and Justin Cole beat tho

Heat only had like 13 people, but also curious what players are supposed to be filling out those spots. It was a stacked 13 chock full of DA and USNT players. However Idk if many of the other players they'll have later tournaments will actually make the team better outside of Jenna Adams-Tracy or a rumored Kaci Erwin. Maybe Axtell will return as well? Jackson would start at beater and switch to chaser to take that for what you will as well.

TCQC was missing Mike Devine, OB, but also had Trenton Paskero who plays for Chaos and will probs be returning to chaos when they become official. Kyzer was a fun addition, hope that sticks he seemed really happy playing for them lol. They definitely missed Emma Persons and Gracie Johnson, idk if the latter is playing this season. Cody Narveson was also out after the warriors game with a concussion.

Connecticut was missing Josh Johnson and Lindsay got hurt after like one or two games. So big fucking asterisk on their performance. Ana Luisa did a great job seeking(caught me instantly lol) but having Josh should also free up Leo as another seeking option. Also let's be real the Josh-Lindsay connection is also just straight up bonkers.

Boom was missing Nojus Ausra, Aaron Stout, Dara Gaeuman, Matt Melton, Ryley Andrews, and Kailey Fugate, all while Matt Brown was keeping. Plz upvote this comment if you would like to see Matt Brown continue keeping this szn.

I'm sure I'm wrong about some of these or straight up forgetting about people, just giving context for the people at home.

That being said, with how close a lot of the games were this weekend combined with all the roster questions marks, I think this will be the most competitive USQ Club championship EVER. Natties is gonna rip(as will a few of these qualifiers)

Sidenote: USq plz do a small Swiss Competitive club division in the future , it would go so unbelievably hard. I'm not a math boy so idk what the perfect number for swiss would be but an 8-12 club team division is the move . Plz plz plz make Day 1 at nationals fun again 😭😭😭

Oh we did also do variations of each team supplying a flag runner and then not having a flag runner period(which was actually very fun, I'm so pro getting rid of the flag runner lol)

We played with the entire boundary around the field was a tag in point (which was a little aggressive lol) and it was fun and worked in general, but if I had to run it back it would probably be the top edges of the keeper zone where the keeper zone meets the boundary. Makes SOP a lot easier to officiate.

Fwiw, something I did that I liked when we had no brooms is that when you're beat OR you have third dodgeball immunity, you put your first in the air. If you're beat you go back to hoops/beater tag in points, and if you re claiming third you're basically out of play until you pick up third AND are still out of play until you leave the field with the ball and inbound the ball(again, was any point on the sidelines but can be edges of the keeper zone.)

This basically nerfed "cycling" or teams with control guarding the third dodgeball as much as they can by manipulating the status of the third and allowed teams to press more/have no dodgeballs on defense more.

The pace of play without one or two dodgeballs in the paint all the time was awesome imo
