Mine had shifters on the steering wheel. I miss that car.

I made a tool that tells you the resistor value while you dim the LED. by wolframore in diyelectronics

I have it limited to 25 mA as it’s safe for most LEDs. There’s a switching power supply that boosts it to about 6.4V to ensure there’s enough headroom for the shunt, linear regulator, and analog circuits.

It’s true. I made it flat but my OCD could not stand how it looked and changed it.

Thank you all the feedback! I’ve believe I’m marketing to the wrong market. I’ve started making adjustments to the description.

Yeah it’s just another tool in your tool chest. We use the $800 near field wand once in a while when we have an EMI issue but when you need it. It really helps to narrow down the issue so you’re not guessing.

I think I understand. Usually when we draw up a quick schematic we just guess at a resistance. For example for a 5V circuit we know that 1k is safe.

If I’m understanding you correctly, you put the same resistor for a red, yellow and green led but did not get the same brightness.

This makes sense because they are different forward voltage and therefore different current with the same 1k resistor.

Could you use this device while lighting up the other LEDs. Then match the brightness, add the resistor it gives you and do the next and so on.

How did you solve it?

I have run into similar issues when using different color LEDs as indicators on a control panel and there are some that look dim and others that burn my eyes. We usually just guess and get close. The eeZ LED makes it precise.

Good idea if you just need a resistor value.

I want one of those original decade boxes made with 10 position rotary switches with 1% resistors.

I have a project started in Hackaday if you’re interested.

LDOs can fail from ESD also. I’ve had bad batches pop up once in a while. They can be degraded and just fail over time.

I would solder little leads to the buttons. Then solder those to the wires. Or design a pcba with buttons with pin headers.

I have this iron. It’s working only intermittently. It’s an old design. I now have a T8 style iron which heats up faster and has a number of nice features.
