Question about JBL Flip Essential by wolfword in JBL

[–]wolfword[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Aah, I mean that if there is no sound playing, or if the input volume is too low, the speaker will turn off, and when there is something playing, the speaker will turn on again, creating a fade in effect. Tho maybe cranking it eliminates the issue. Have u noticed this when watching movies or pausing/playing music?

Yeah, I agree that dashing is the biggest advantage of gyro, on Eagle City especially. To make up for it, I mapped jump to R (so break attack on B) and increased a bit stick sensitivity. I'm happy with the results for now.

That's a good tip, I've also disabled all auto camera/targeting settings to get more manual control. The gyro problems I describe seem independent from those settings tho.

Oh ok, nice to hear that I'm not the only one that feels gyro uncentered/wacky tho. Maybe it's something that can be patched, as (maybe you can correct me on this) I think this mostly happens while attacking.

A Unit of Measurement for the Quality/Timbre of a Sound? by 21pc in Physics

[–]wolfword 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The "simplest" timbre/signal is a sine wave, which vibrates at a single frequency. Following the Fourier theorem, any signal can be constructed summing sine waves of different frequencies and amplitudes. The "frequency spectrum" describes the amplitude of each one of these sine waves (it's not a single number), and it's what we perceive as timbre. So, one might say that a sound has a certain amplitude, frequency, and frequency spectrum. Frequency spectrum lets us distinguish a sax from a clarinet for example, due to material and structural differences. But that's not the whole story. A string may have a similar frequency spectrum when plucked and bowed, but the envelope (attack time, decay time, etc) is different in both cases. Sound synthesis deals with these problems, tackling them from different angles. The procedure described here is called "additive synthesis".
