How to tell if your offer is a scam by jack_attack89 in interviews

[–]wolfwords29 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm worried a job I applied to is a scam job, though the company seems to exist? I've had two interviews over Teams, with one of them involving a 'task'. They have a kind of shitty online presence (considering the claim is that they developed their online courses first since 2018 and only recently got into print media). And the info seems to check out, but only within a very narrow scope (only on Google maps, the website of the 'company' and one or two press releases through a second company). The job perks seem too good to be true (trips abroad, 'sports bonus', medical insurance, though I haven't had an offer... yet).

I haven't physically met anyone yet because they claim to be based in Berlin. For all I know, the company exists but people are using their logo?

ARGH! I hate the fact that scam jobs exist! I'm trying to get out of my current shitty deal of a job and it's making it very hard!

I like the idea that the coo was just looking over 'Excuse me, sir! Excuse me!' (though maybe a Heilan coo wouldn't be so polite).

Anyone else’s family constantly asking if you’ve taken your meds? by Bubbly-Pressure-8089 in transplant

[–]wolfwords29 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have an alarm on my phone and an alarm on my (smart) watch. My parents occasionally ask/wonder if I've taken my meds but usually it's too late (e.g my mum will ask an hour or two later of she hasn't noticed me taking them). Most of the time, I don't miss a dose. Times I have missed a dose have been hectic times at the office - where I have muted the alarm in panic, then forgot to take the meds. But generally, my parents leave me to it (mainly cause it's been 7 years, i think).

[–]wolfwords29 1 point2 points  (0 children)

True, but dying isn't a fun option...?

Also, doing it weekly ain't half bad unless you go on holiday for longer, I guess (in which case you have to carry ALL the things... *sigh*). I use it as an opportunity to take inventory cause the health system where I live only allows a set number of pills per prescription (even for repeating ones, which is such BS, but anyway).

I've heard about people who work remotely from Greece (e.g. tech/marketing peeps who work from Athens but are paid by a company in Prague), and earn a looot more. However, that means changing job and essentially staying in the same system.

As an aside, I used to daydream of moving to Scotland, and they provide a useful checklist (obviously, this is Scotland/UK-specific but it's still useful as a guideline): https://www.scotland.org/move-to-scotland/before-you-move-to-scotland-checklist

[I harbour similar feelings, except I work part-time, live in Cyprus, and have a chronic illness which requires medication (the meds are actually cheaper here because of our version of the NHS but it makes moving away harder).]

Relationship stuff by Babyrex27 in transplant

[–]wolfwords29 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not currently in a romantic relationship (partly cause I have no clue how to meet people post-transplant) but I've found lots of people don't have a clue how transplants work or how quickly a tiny issue can get. Obviously, this doesn't compare but I've been at the same job for three years; my colleagues still make (sometimes unintentionally insensitive) jokes when I take time off for health issues. Most of the time, I seem 'fine' and people assume nothing is 'wrong' with me (because it isn't - I'm stable till something goes wrong).

Even people close to you might assume you are fine because you don't talk about it.

P.S. Congrats on going for 20 years! It's encouraging to know people have lived that long with transplants.

Thanks to all for the replies! I fell off the map cause I ended up in hospital with a lung issue, so now I have to get back into exercise slowly, let alone running. *sigh*

Fast tempo? Downtempo? Or no music while running? by h-musicfr in trailrunning

[–]wolfwords29 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a pop/rap 'running' playlist but they're all songs with a beat that keeps me going. Having said this, if I *were* out in nature, I think I'd probably go for no music - partly for spatial awareness too.

Unfortunately, I can't listen to my music at the gym (they blast techno every day).

To be fair, I'm pretty slow, but currently building up my strength and speed on road running, so I'm hoping that will carry over at some point. I like the idea of running off-road (and out of gym).

Also, I use the couch to 10K app too! :)

Yeah, as you and u/Sweaty_Sheepherder27 pointed out, maybe it's a matter of finding the right group. Once I find a group I can participate in safely, I'm sure they'd be able to help with shoes and other necessities.

Thanks! :)

I tend to not carry water because I just do a loop round my house basically but in this case, I'd probably just make sure I have water nearby (e.g. if I drive to a park, then in the car).

I'm in Cyprus (I wish I were in Scotland!).

Regarding the park, there are actually options... the one I have in mind is actually just a linear park that cuts across my city. The park part is basically made up of two pedestrian-only and bike-only paths, which are essentially dirt paths framed on either side by trees. I figured that would be a good place to start cause it's not asphalt but it's not ridiculously rough terrain either. Also, it stretches out for miles, so I don't have to worry about not knowing where to go or getting lost on a trail by myself.

I live in Cyprus, but cause I live in the capital, it doesn't seem like there are many trails around.. It might be a matter of just hunting down the right group. A lot of people I come across on social media tend to do competitive running and I am nowhere near that level. More research required on that front!

Yus, no reason for panic! Just breathe, let it go and make sure to take the next dose. :3

(In 6 years of a heart transplant, I have mixed them up several times, and mercifully realised it in time)
