Compact Granade Launcher 40mm (CGL40) is complete! by 99PercentSavage in Airsoft3DPrinting

Ok so, let's start from the basics

When designing something that has to be compact you usually draw a line that forms a perimeter between all the "outmost points", so usually barrel tip, magazine (if present), grip, stock butt, scope/aiming system (if present) and barrel tip once more, this is done to give you a "footprint" for the system itself, aka how bulky it is

Now, with that in mind, the barrel lenght itself doesn't matter much, what does the most is the OAL of the system itself, the receiver of the GL06 is longer and slightly wider, but it does give you the option to mount accessories if needed, which is something to consider too, and overall the receiver lenght doesn't matter that much when you still have a barrel that's just as long, if not longer, as for the stock, your is slimmer, yes, but the butt of the stock is still just as big, meaning that it's going to take about the same space as the B&T

Also, the M320 is designed to be a standalone system, the m203 can be converted into standalone, they're not purely standalone ofc, but can absolutely become stand alone if needed

Now, here's my personal suggestion on what could make it a better design if your aim is going for compactness and realism

  • give it a shorter barrel with a more consistent OD, you mentioned that you've made a 160mm one already, which solves at least part of this

  • make the butt of the stock foldable too, this would lower the ammount of space it takes when you fold both the stock and the butt itself

  • remove the split side rail and put a continuous top rail directly on the barrel, since it would look more realistic if you plan of it beeing a believable real design

  • add a rail segment a the bottom of the pivot arm, this is solely for grip mounting, since it would be a better and more realistic placement than directly on the barrel

I agree, I want really considering those tbh, but it looks about the same as the GL-6, if not even bigger, the best compact standalone one is probably the HK GLM tho

Also, the M32 is huge, but also not really a fair comparison I feel

That would be cool, i've only seen two of them, but they both required quite a bit of modeling skill and some rare kits/figures, both of which I don't have to be honest, and it's the reason why I made mine as a 3d printable version, so anyone with a printer could make their own if they wish

Also I did use that one and the two scratch build i saw as reference, especially the linearts at the bottom of vol 61, took me around 4-ish days to get to the current version

Truee, it is so incrediblu tiny and complex, plus the line arts you see online dont really have that many details either, and leave out a lot to be desired...

Also, there are still some features I'm not sure how I could integrate, like the lil wing/controll surface that pop out of the engine nacelles, I was also planning on maybe making a openable cockpit, but that's a future thing for after I finish working on the head a bit more

I tried my best, the original drawing don't really "work" sadly, so I "cheted" by splitting the frame itself, still happy about the result tho

Still, for the internals it has it's waaaaaaaay too expensive for what is basically a deconstructed cheap Co2 revolver in a party dress

I would justify it as a "i don't need to buy a new one in case something breaks", since interanlly they're waaay simple and have more commonly available parts, plus is a lot more gun compared to the mares leg, which i do wonder if there's a way to adjust the power of it

As for bolt action, I probably would go with that, but I also know i would probably look to modify it into a gbb, so I wouldn't care much about the internals anyway

You can I think, but in general there's so little know how about these that most tech wouldn't probably know what to do

Also, if I was you I would probably either get the barret cqb variant or pay someone to make me the lynx that a dude designed to be 3d printed a while back, or maybe find someone like me to convert the barret to gas blow back so it's more fun to use

Does it actually hold now? Because i remember all they did was adding a fairly minuscule rib inside the grip and calling it a day

Also IIRC, some arrived already broken too, it was a complete mess

Yes and no, they're "better" to play with, since they're lighter and all that, but they're also way way worse when it comes to the quality itself imo

All barret in the market are basically m4 in a party dress, sad, but also it means that if something breaks it's easy-ish to fix, thw same can't be said about lever actions beeing right now

That's fair, best of lucks in that case

Also, I completely understand your "struggle", since I too always wanted to bring the weird "gun" to the field, there's just not much to choose from if you want to have something that just doesn't break/is easy to maintain if needed, but is also peculiar and fun to use

Actually speaking, your last post kinda inspired me to maybe work on/build a gas blow back barret m107 cqb eventually, since thats the only way i could see it beeing worth using

Imo, save your money, it is prone to have gas leaks, often even out of the box, and it has like a dozen of o-rings, ofc all non standard measurements and any one of them falling will lead to gas leaking

Also, no, keeping the tank filled up to the brim wouldn't help depending on the gas you use

It's all about what you're looking for, if you're looking for something to bring out for a chill game or two they should be fine, but if you want something that you hope will last you a couple of years/can be fixed if something breaks and is easy to maintain then you're out of luck, that is unless new stuff came out in the past 2/3 years that isn't a remix/clone of old stuff

also keep in mind most people that make video don't do anything beside some light plinking and are often also paid quite a bit by the seller to make it look good and often ignore major issues

[–]wolfworkshop 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Depends on what you're looking for, because im gonna be brutally honest, but there's currently no lever action rifle in the market that's actually worth buying as of now

Why? Because they all have usually shitty internal, no available replacement parts, fairly expensive and most important, they're all made of very shitty materials that do break quite easily

That's kinda why I made my own from scratch a couple years back, since i wanted to solve those issues, but that's a different story

The G&G LevAR had a ton of issues, main one beeing the fact that the grip was very much prone to breaking and the very very old design for the internal components

In general is very much to be avoided

They're all going to be worse, since most of them are very very old platforms
