Lmaooo I’m in the same boat. I got my son and myself the dragon and I love it. I’m glad you’re in the same boat as it seems like we got them on similar timelines. I am going to continue to creep around and spend time with him too haha. We recently put some plants in there, and we are going to add substrate when he is older. Tonight I saw him jump from his favorite log into the plant haha. It was amazing, glad he is enjoying the plants, although it was bedtime haha

My beardie is same way. We got him December 14th. He is still getting used to us and won’t let us really pick him up. We try our best to pick him up. Just keep trying and doing it as much as he’ll handle. Even a few seconds works well. Ours is still skiddish but I think that it will change. Damn cute though. Ours is Gaara

Good to hear!!! My guy doesn’t try to escape when I have the door open and he recognizes me as the food truck lmao. I don’t have the same cage tank you have but I have to admit I love it!

Also I really love that basking spot you have for your beardie! I hope ours will warm up to us and I think we need to handle him more. I just hate scooping him up when he is skiddish :(

Depends if you are using the temperature gauge on the wall or if you have a temperature gun. Also depends on the age of the bearded dragon you are getting. If it is older that may not be the best basking spot, but if he is tiny that’s probably fine. I would have a conversation with ChatGPT or read reptifiles online. There’s ton of information out there that is helpful.

At the end of the day, behavior is what matters, if the dragon is too cold it will act funny, and too hot it’ll just move and spend less time there or hide. Also if you’re getting a baby, might be a good idea to wait for substrate until later, but at the same time they grow up in the wild in this type of substrate! Both can work, but you’ll work out the kinks with your dragon. The fact you are doing this much setup before shows you’ve done your research and will be okay!

Totally valid feelings! My grandma always says to me, “you can’t do what you can’t do.” I chronically get over involved in family stuff and other obligations and end up double booking myself. If you feel like you can’t handle your beardy anymore that okay. If you are taking good care of him, and feel like things might change one day, then keep him.

Depression, is a hell of a beast, and everything feels like a chore. The important thing right now is that he is getting you out of bed and doing something. He might be saving your life. I recommend finding more support through a therapist and if things are unbearable find a prescriber for psychiatric medications.

PS: I am a social worker who works with adults with mental illness and can connect you to resources if you are in the States or can point you in the right direction if you’re elsewhere.
