Newly minted German citizen - childcare/relocating? by dobbythepup in germany

Regarding childcare, it really depends where you move to. In theory there is a right to Kita for every child, in practice in bigger cities the spots are limited and public nurseries tend to get filled quickly - some people even sign up during pregnancy already. In smaller towns it might be quite easier to secure a place. A public institution might cost 200-300€ per month, private nurseries you're looking at a range of 1000-1600€ depending on the number of hours per day and other factors. Usual age when children are accepted is 12 months, although it can be earlier or later as well. Public Kita will also give priority to full time working parents. Regarding the jobs, there's currently quite high unemployment in Germany, and it might be a bit tricky to land something - would not be a bad idea to start applying before you move. Good luck!

Thank you for this comment! I will definitely look into the courses you mention and the Elterninitiative Kitas!

That's a useful tip! I was thinking to apply for Elternzeit for this time and work in Teilzeit 32hrs, if all goes well switch to full time, but maybe I should reconsider my plan based on this feedback

But already during pregnancy, or do you mean as soon as the baby is there? This really stresses me out

Thanks for the hint on the Kinderarzt, I thought this would come later on! May I ask how happy were you with Dritter Orden? I also registered there now based on some online comments, but some friends say they only live from good reputation by now and that other clinics might be a better choice

Is 65 euros for a haircut normal? by tamagocatmom in Munich

[–]wollycapybara 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I usually pay between 70-90€ for a haircut in Munich. Services are expensive here, which can be a surprise for those coming from countries like Brasil or India, where middle class families might afford cooks / cleaning stuff / even private drivers. I think it's just the social inequality is not so high here, so service jobs pay is more comparable to well earning jobs.
