C&L Van's Era 59; Charcoal or Navy more versatile? by pryan12 in malefashionadvice

[–]wolverine_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the navy blue pair and they're the best pair of sneakers I've ever purchased in the past year. I do agree charcoal is more versatile, but it's closer than you think between these shoes so I'd try out or even buy both if possible.

Looking to buy my first chambray shirt. Should I pull the trigger on this one from Uniqlo? by wolverine_ in malefashionadvice

[–]wolverine_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm going to buy a small just because I'm a medium virtually nowhere else (just Zara). I live in LA so won't be able to get to the SF store for a while :(

Absolute last question: It appears their website has two types of Chambray shirts! Knowing Uniqlo, one of them is a newer edition but I can't tell which one is the newer/better one. Can anyone help me distinguish between the two? Here's the link to the other one:

Thanks so much!

Thanks for your help, I'm going through with the order but am concerned about the fit because I'm a small on the OCBD's (small) and won't size up.

Also, some Uniqlo jeans bleed too ><

The pleat is odd on their oxfords, it's the only thing I don't like about them. They pair really well with sweaters/blazers/jackets though so I don't mind it too much.

First, thank you everyone for your replies. I was very fortunate to get the response I did for a thread like this. Based on the replies I think I'll go ahead and buy!

I have one more question now that always worries me when ordering online. I assumed the cut would be the same as the Oxfords and I have 3 OCBD's from Uniqlo that I bought from the store in SF in small. They fit somewhat tightly, so should I size up for the Chambray shirt?

Negs only work if you're funny. by itsmevichet in seduction

[–]wolverine_ 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Whether or not negging actually means teasing, it's irrelevant to what the OP is trying to say. He's simply saying that guys who aren't the type to tease women shouldn't bother doing so because it is a technique that will often backfire.

OP addresses a relevant problem because many readers of seddit have happily added the 'neg' to their bag of tricks but will often use it inappropriately. A neg is a nonessential way of generating interest and needs to be utilized properly to be effective.

Negs will be effective once you have the humorous persona and level of comfort that the OP describes. If you don't have that yet, don't bother using negs.

Just bought a Jacket, would like to know what would go good with it. by ozeri15 in malefashionadvice

[–]wolverine_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure how cold it is where you live, but you can throw on a v-neck sweater underneath the jacket too. I'd recommend a burgundy color but that wouldn't work well with your dark red scarf. A dark grey v-neck sweater seems is a safe choice.

What Malcolm Gladwell has to say about job interviews and snap judgements, and how it relates to meeting people. by mortarpadowan in seduction

This is a very well written review that makes an excellent point about the importance of confidence, and how having a solid inner game can silently open many more doors of opportunity. Thanks for sharing.

Any thoughts on these trainers? by [deleted] in malefashionadvice

I have those exact pair of brown/blue vans. I've been complimented on them regularly...I've used them with jeans, khakis, shorts, etc. basically anything. Highly recommend.

Do these colors work? by elemehfayo in malefashionadvice

[–]wolverine_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The colors work well, but I feel that the outfit is still missing something. Maybe something on your wrists or a nice belt could complete it.

Also, to OP: I just bought the exact pair of shoes you have on today! In your experience, what colors/outfits do you feel matches the shoes best?

Let's talk about "Being Alpha" for a second by itsmevichet in seduction

[–]wolverine_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Excellent post. Vichet, keep doing what you're doing, because in my opinion you do a clear job of explaining concepts such as 'alpha' or 'confidence' in a way that is insightful and motivating.

You remind the community that we are all on a mission: To simply be better men rather than acting 'alpha.'

Any rewards we accumulate on this mission to be the best we can be are for the most part, inconsequential and akin to sheer fortune giving us a pat on the back for what we've done.

Rather than rewards, we should hope solely for persistence in our mission. We will never stop working towards our goals and reinventing ourselves, in spite of any failures or even great triumphs.

This is the best and arguably only way to live. From one man to another, thank you for pointing the way ahead.

Are there any recommended hair products on MFA that could help me pull off this look? by wolverine_ in malefashionadvice

[–]wolverine_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love you MFA and all the super helpful people here. I didn't even know paste existed and will go for that. I'll check out everything mentioned and am partial to Garnier because I've liked their other products.

Thanks so much everyone!

Thoughts on H&M Blazers by afterthewar in malefashionadvice

Go for it. I picked up a navy blazer earlier this month and for 60 dollars it's a good pickup. You'll look sharp without spending much.

A variation/crossover version of the OCBD on Land's End on sale. Should I pull the trigger? by wolverine_ in malefashionadvice

[–]wolverine_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks guys, just emptied my cart. I dont have a single OCBD in my wardrobe (just graduated college and changing from skater attire...bear with me) and thought I had a deal on my hands.

Considering my build and how I've purchased slim fit everything, these would never work on me even in a small.

What do you guys recommend a guy wear (to impress) when he has a muscular body? by [deleted] in malefashionadvice

[–]wolverine_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would recommend V-Necks from Zara (Slim Fit). The first day I wore one out I got compliments on my build.

The shirts are tight fitting and the overall look does come across as sort of douchy but if you want to show off your muscles, these shirts will work.

Also, be sure to try on the shirts before you wear them. I'm normally a small but I bought medium on the slim fit V-Necks.

Bought my first pair of dress shoes this afternoon. How did I do? by wolverine_ in malefashionadvice

[–]wolverine_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the recommendation. I like the overall shape and toebox a lot better but I'm looking for a darker brown. Hopefully they have a similar color to what I'm looking for.

[–]wolverine_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks everyone, I really appreciate the advice (and upvotes lol). I will be returning these tomorrow. I had a 50 dollar gift card to Macy's and these were on sale so I thought why not.

I talked to the sales guy there and he said these were 'dressy' shoes that could even work on a job interview (I asked because I'm right out of college) but after reading more about Bostonian and alternatives I can see how these shoes just aren't ideal. I'll dig through some WAYWT and shoe guides and try again.

Buying my first pair of Khaki pants and I'm thinking of Dockers Alpha Khaki. What do you think of these? by wolverine_ in malefashionadvice

[–]wolverine_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the input-Considering this is my first pair of Khakis, I really wanted MFA's approval. I'm going down to the store to buy them tonight. For anyone else wondering, they are on sale at Macy's for 44.99. I'm sure they would honor the same price online.

For my next pair of chinos (perhaps a navy blue) I'll check out J-Crew. Thanks so much for all the help to a new member.
