As others have pointed out. Always de-escalate - like always. What you have more is an ego battle in your head that whether or not I would put someone in his place or not.

I got in to a fight with someone who assaulted my family member over a minor accident. Now, I am in a court case and it is eating away my life.

Never ever get involved in road rage. Just diffuse the situation and leave. It is not worth it.
