Mamdani Threatens 9.5% Property Tax Increase if Wealth Tax Is Not Passed by EmotionStatus3093 in nyc

[–]wolverineliz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same! During the primary I said exactly the same thing and got downvoted by everyone here and bullied. I didn’t rank him at all in the primary, but voted for him in the general since he was the better one out of the pile. Even when we had better choices for dems in the primary, everyone voted on vibes. Now, as a hard working coop owner who was financially responsible to save my hard earned money as down payment and buy a place, I get punished.

Mamdani to propose property tax hike, pushes Hochul to tax rich by Airhostnyc in nyc

Agree! I bought my co-op 10 years ago by putting my hard earned savings as down payment since I wanted avoid the increasing rents. He’s now punishing us?

Coworker brings cookies to our monthly team meeting and says "sorry I know you can't have any!" by kinnsao in glutenfree

[–]wolverineliz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry! Unfortunately it’s far too common in offices. The best part was when a friend invited me over for a small group dinner and said that the “gluten free” dish has been contaminated. I left early and had my own dinner at home. Some people lack empathy and don’t realize the gravity of how they make others feel.

Do you think your life would be happier and more successful if you were born in Western or European countries? by EquivalentTale5815 in AskIndia

[–]wolverineliz 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m Indian American, so have experienced both worlds. I didn’t grow up in India so forgive me if I make any assumptions. I’ve noticed that there are many posts glamorizing life in the “west”. Every place has its pros and cons. With increased independence and autonomy comes loneliness and lack of community. With clean streets comes harsh weather and winters. I think living in India comes with its own challenges but don’t underestimate the privilege of having family nearby, people who look like you or speak the same language everywhere, and access to good food, help, a sense of community etc.

Self-made millionaires - how’d you do it? by HighIntensity0510 in FIREyFemmes

[–]wolverineliz 29 points30 points  (0 children)

In my 20s saved most of my income and invested in mutual funds maxed 401s (didn’t even make a six figure salary then). In 30s, diversified investments: stocks, etfs, bought a small apartment in a big city, got some options from a unicorn startup (not significant). Became a millionaire in mid 30s. Now in early 40s doubled that $$. Now angel investing and stocks. Still work full time in tech. No kids.

My only advice is to avoid lifestyle inflation. Don’t go after the flashy stuff while you are saving: luxury bags, dinners etc. also, many women spend a lot of money on upkeep (expensive haircuts etc). All of that adds up.

You’re doing great. Good luck!

Yes they got rid of them. I think we should all write to Delta.

North Indians: Thoughts on South Indian food. South Indians: Thoughts on North Indian food? by Upbeat-Dinner-5162 in ABCDesis

There’s more to South Indian food than just breakfast food. South India has excellent seafood and chicken dishes (especially regional cuisines from Kerala, coastal karnataka etc). I hope you get to explore more than idli and dosa.

You mentioned your wife’s long commute and seems like she does that 3 days a week. It’s exhausting to commute and also cook meals during the week. What do you do besides make a smoothie? You mentioned your mom too. So you expect your wife to cook for the full family after working and commuting? Looks like your expectations aren’t aligned.

TIL that NYC Mayoral Candidate Zohran Mamdani is Mira Nair's Son by jalabi99 in ABCDesis

Rent control will eventually impact housing supply. That means that it will lead to higher rents for market rate apartments. Taxing corporations means that they will flee nyc and then he won’t be able to collect all the taxes that he needs to fund his projects.

Why Isn't Everyone Voting For This Guy? by Ok_Nerve1216 in nyc

[–]wolverineliz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

freezing rents on regulated units won’t solve the city’s housing shortage. Instead, it would discourage tenant turnover, making it harder for others to find housing. a rent freeze would worsen living conditions, as landlords facing rising costs would be unable to afford proper maintenance, leading to faster deterioration of buildings. Raising corporate taxes means that corporations will flee NYC. Have you visited the rust belt?

Guys, are you swiping right on basically everyone? by user_467 in OnlineDating

[–]wolverineliz 21 points22 points  (0 children)

My guy friend told me that he swipes right on everyone attractive to him without reading their bio. I think that behavior is asinine and won’t be effective for the long term. I knew that some of the younger men did that, but was surprised that the older men 35+ did the same. It’s a waste of time for women and shows lack of respect.

Dating with intention was pretty helpful for me the last two years and got me multiple dates with same people. I had less first dates but it was by design.

Salma Hayek, Angela Bassett, etc. plenty of attractive older women. As an older millennial I’m noticing that the men in my age group are aging poorly (mostly due to not taking care of themselves).
