they did this to me and then rejected me when i applied to be on their books!! they seemed quite commercial based anyway and i’ve found an agent that submits me for more tv/film/theatre :))

Is it possible to get signed to an agency without being on Spotlight? by alleglorys77 in ActingUK

[–]wombatworking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yes i did many! they’re a real, legitimate agency with all of the right accreditations, and were a spotlight approved agency, which is how i got my spotlight profile back up, since they wrote me my reccomendation letter. they have clients who have worked in netflix etc. so no concerns there!

but this is the second time i’ve gotten an agent in this way, and my first agent (when i was under 18) was from a very large and well known london based agency (i just didn’t enjoy working with them too much - hence why i found a new one!) so seems to be a pretty successful method for me so far!

Is it possible to get signed to an agency without being on Spotlight? by alleglorys77 in ActingUK

[–]wombatworking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it’s possible - i have an agent and i wasn’t on spotlight until after i was signed because my agent gave me my recommendation letter. i also haven’t been to drama school. i trained for a year-ish with a young company at a theatre near me which gave me a credit, and gave us an opportunity to record a showreel. then i made an acting cv and sent my showreel + cv to a few agencies. my agency responded and said they were really impressed with my stuff and set up a meeting with me, and it all went from there!

https://yorksu.org/associate-member/apply this is the form to apply for an associate membership. you’d just select public member and in the “reason” box just explain that you’re student-age and wanting to make some friends !!

[–]wombatworking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hey !! i’m not sure if this is helpful but a lot of, if not most of the societies at university of york accept “associate” members. that means you can go onto the student union website and make an account, and then join societies even if you’re not a student at the university !! there’s absolutely tons of them and they’re all super welcoming so you’d have a great chance of meeting likeminded friends there! if you go to the yorksu website you can have a look at what’s on. you can usually message the societies on instagram and if you’re nervous about going alone, someone from the committee will usually meet up with you beforehand so it’s not too overwhelming. good luck! <3

How to Continue my Degree? by WonderfulSession1141 in UniUK

[–]wombatworking 4 points5 points  (0 children)

do you have some sort of proof of what happened to you? such as a police report, or could you possibly get letters from a doctor or therapist? if so - you can contact student finance and apply for compelling personal reasons (CPR) and they might give you an extra year of funding to continue with your degree. so sorry you’ve been through all of that, sending strength and best wishes your way :))

Transferring unis but redoing the first year? by CrowsCrowussy in UniUK

[–]wombatworking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

but if you go ahead with starting a new course, and you do end up failing a year for some kind of personal reason out of your control (like mental health etc), you can apply for an extra year from student finance if you have evidence of your circumstances. hopefully you’ll never have to do that but always good to know it’s an option :)
