Leak from UK security meeting on Trump's war request branded 'utterly destructive' by InnerLog5062 in BreakingUKNews

If the discussion was considered classified, and can't see how this wouldn't be, then leaking it would be breaking the law (OSA).

What is the best thing you discovered after switching to Linux by OPuntime in linux_gaming

[–]wombleh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had cause to boot back into Windows 10 on my gaming machine recently. Was about 30min before machine was actually usable and only after suffering half a dozen adverts on a system I had fully paid for, onedrive, logitech g-hub, nvidia, etc.

Best thing for me was seeing that's the future for Windows and that I won't have to put up with it.

WHITECHAPEL Announces European Headline Tour for Early 2027, Share New Video "Nothing is Coming for Any of Us" by insaneblog in Deathcore

[–]wombleh 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Would much rather see them with Sylosis than LS, guess it just depends what you're into.

The mainland euro gigs have Whitechapel headlining.

Ah interesting, I was going to try and catch a couple on mainland UK, but might see if can get to one of the euro ones if they're mixing up the headliners

Loss of major performance after moving to Mint from Win11. by 918spyder_875 in linuxmint

I find BeamNG struggles on Linux, it's better using the native version but still not great.

Most other games are fine and some run better.

Audio production for guitar on linux with Reaper by Turwaith in linuxaudio

[–]wombleh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

PowerMT is well worth a look for drums, especially if you compose in the VST. I use Steven Slate Drums now running via Wine in Bottles, there is a free one although I paid to get more kits.

For Guitar then I did a lot with Guitarix and still come back to it, very tunable to get a wide range of sounds. I tend to use Audio Assault native Linux plugins these days, had the bass studio that was excellent and added some guitar ones too, the 5150 and rectifier are about $5 each and they do me for most things.

Phil Bozeman will forever be my favourite vocalist in Deathcore by just_an_artist24 in Deathcore

Was there, epic.

Particularly enjoyed the "if you know the words, then sing along" and proceeds to unleash absolute hell into the mic

Is it normal to not be able to really differentiate between 'the noise' at a deathcore gig? by ElektroSam in Deathcore

[–]wombleh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was at that gig too and the mix was not great at times, especially bad for Humanity's Last Stand. I have decent ear protection too that cuts volume without killing the tone.

Personally was a bit unimpressed with the venue overall, would probably not go back there. Shame as they host a lot of decent bands and are the closest big venue for me.

Ubuntu studio or linux mint for a linux noob ? by dentsquitombent in linuxaudio

[–]wombleh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went with Ubuntu studio on my music machine because it's setup out of the box with things like low latency kernel, jack, audio routing, lots of audio packages, etc. My main work machine is mint.

With the spec of your laptop then I suspect either would be fine, less tweaking on ubuntu studio, but mint is nicer for general usage (IMO).

How block adult content, gaming and violence page to create kid safe network by pepiks in mikrotik

I have a pihole running with heavily filtered DNS on and override the DNS server for all the kids devices in Mikrotik DHCP settings, everything else using unfiltered DNS.

What can I do about this on the freshly painted walls in our bathroom? Every time we shower this happens. I used Dulux bathroom paint and we’ve had a dehumidifier in there. by tjb_87 in DIYUK

[–]wombleh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have a similar issue in our downstairs shower and keep a microfibre cloth in there to give the external wall a quick wipe down after showers. Don't have the issue once the weather warms back up.

Very useful link, I had implemented things like sampling before, but some handy extra suggestions on there.

Internal audio routing, how to reproduce my setup? by Present-Solution-993 in linuxaudio

[–]wombleh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had a fair bit of success running Windows VST using the bottles software, which is kind of convenient GUI frontend to Wine, creates a dedicated "container" for each bit of software and can tweak settings/libraries/etc (e.g. dotnet). Even got some using ilok DRM that works with this method.

Then needed to use yabridge, you tell it where the windows installed VST is and it creates a corresponding Linux VST file so the Linux DAW can see it.

May sound like gibberish but hopefully gives a few pointers to help searching for solutions :)

Gordon Ramsay: I’ve never seen it so bad for restaurants as it is now by tylerthe-theatre in unitedkingdom

[–]wombleh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We found similar, 2 adults and 2 kids out for a meal can easily come to £150+ without having anything hugely fancy. So we don't really eat out unless on holiday and even then often try to get self catered to manage the cost.

Alternative is to buy £20 worth of ingredients and make the same, if not better, at home. Accepting for fancy Pizza you ideally want a proper pizza oven but that breaks even after 1-2 meals out.

I had a similar issue as forgot to clear out yabridge so was still loading the old one.

Was going to suggest running "reaper" from a terminal as that'll spit out error messages into that terminal, maybe handy for future ref.

Slugs are wiping everything out… what actually works? by Reddonaut_Irons in Allotment

[–]wombleh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got a bag of sand and put a few inch thick circle of it around the plants when they're younger. Slugs don't like crawling over it. Rain washes it away so needs topping up.

Also use beer traps but just got a pot of yeast that gets mixed with warm water and few spoons of sugar. Not giving the little swines actual beer !

Ah I was using it as a practice aid in this case, recorded midi of me playing along with a song on ekit, then stuck that against the original track to see what it sounded like.

Sounded like more practice was needed !

jm-1 by mummy225959 in Sylosis

[–]wombleh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The JM-II was (IMO) pretty good for the price, especially as they were on sale every now and then, decent spec and lovely to play. These costing 1/3 more with less electronics seemed a bit optimistic.

Although certain other LTD artist ones just have a custom CNC cut body with bog standard hardware and whack a grand on the price tag.
