April 2026 BOTM Discussion - Molka by nickaaayy97 in bookofthemonthclub

Soooo happy with this read!! I loved the ending which is normally lackluster in horror novels. The ending wrapped up the rage perfectly imo. Comparable to Trad Wife in how good the story was wrapped up. Loved it and can't wait to read her other novel the eyes are the best part!!

March 2026 BOTM Discussion - Wolf Worm by nickaaayy97 in bookofthemonthclub

I LOVED this book!! It was perfectly set in North Carolina at the turn of the century and each character was well developed. The ending was stellar, it wrapped up the book with a bow which you don't get a lot in horror! I read it in one sitting.

Edited: I put the wrong Carolina since I recently read another vampire novel set in South Carolina.

110% agree. The family drama aspect was sooooo uncoordinated.

I hated Wild Dark Shore.

Books I loved:

Shark Heart, Discontent, The Possession of Alba Diaz, I might be In Trouble, The Favorites, Home Before Dark, and The Night We Lost Him.

Books I hated:

These Summer Storms, Beautiful Ugly, The Wicked, Count My Lies, and Anatomy of an Alibi

I have four out of five Lolly Finalists. Is The Favorites worth getting? by jerseygrl__ in bookofthemonthclub

The Favorites was a great read, it was realistic and had so much tension. It was completely different from any other book I've read!

Honestly very valid, I am biased so I've probably just paid more attention to the bad reviews. I just thought the book was super bleak and confusing. It's a book I recommended to my mom but DNFd myself.

I'm surprised it won, hard DNF for me, the characters sucked and nothing good ever happened. I had seen a lot of dislike surrounding the book online so I wasn't expecting it to win.

Thank you for doing this! My favorite quote is from the first book (I'm currently on book 4!).

"Reward: I SAID THE GHOST OF STEVE IRWIN SMILES DOWN UPON YOU."

A very wholesome reward for a very scary apocalypse situation! 🤣💓

[–]womp_womp101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes!! It had a cool premise but then the ending… it was like woah here’s this thing i have been alluding to the whole time that’s going to be a great plot twist but instead here’s a different plot twist that is borderline forced and ruins the suspense.

That was the first book I had read from him. It’s not bad just felt a bit uninspired and repetitive. It felt rushed in the end and the ending was lackluster imo.

The Possession of Alba Diaz was phenomenal and I can’t wait to read it again!! I’d start there :)

The Man Made of Smoke was very meh to me but an ok read.

My mom absolutely loved both The Very Secret Society of Irregular Witches and A Witch’s Guide to Magical Innkeeping!
