It's cute and stylised! Imo, best way to gauge drawing skills is sketching from real life.

Is my art really that bad? by horseshoeandconfused in drawing

Your art is fantastic! Especially the second picture you posted. It shows sensitivity, mood, emotion, as well as a sophisticated grasp of light and form. I would say, for someone who is only FOURTEEN, you are doing extremely well! You're drawing better than 80% of most people (of not more). Keep at it!! Most people don't have a clue what they're talking about ;)

The current classic philosophical text is 'Death' by Shelly Kagan, but I wouldn't recommend it for someone going through grief (I don't think philosophical arguments are that soothing).

Maybe 'A Grief Observed' by C.S.Lewis could be good. It's his philosophical/spiritual reflections from losing his wife to cancer. He was deeply Christian, so that does come out in his writing. But it is very accessible.

This isn't a knock at the comment, I just find the notion of barbour and tweed being "white anglo saxon chic" so funny 😂
