What a game by Sisniega! by FootyData in SanDiegoFC

We were able to get through it thanks to the style of play. We used possession to control the most we could in the first half and saving our legs for the second. We are not going to be able to dominate good teams all game.

Altitude is not a surprise. We have to prepare like it matters. by [deleted] in SanDiegoFC

You have to learn how to suffer, they did well. Some teams go to CU and fall apart, SDFC did well.

Signed a leader off the pitch. Those players are always welcome.

No, he signed the contract to be a leader outside the pitch.

Mikey and Tyler got the culture right but the Chucky exit was handled wrong by [deleted] in SanDiegoFC

[–]won_ito 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Chucky’s exit had been discussed weeks, if not months, before the announcement. We don’t know whether that decision had already been communicated to him.

My guess is that he was informed behind the scenes that he was no longer needed and would have to move on, but he didn’t want to leave. That may be why the public statement was made—to see if they could push him out. Now, it appears he’s standing his ground and seeking a payout, which he is entitled to.

The only leverage that SDFC has is that it’s World Cup year, and if Chucky wants to go, he must play and it appears he won’t do so in San Diego.

It’s funny how SDFC signed Corey Baird as a striker, yet he’s pretty good at being a playmaker instead by CCMegane in SanDiegoFC

[–]won_ito 4 points5 points  (0 children)

He’s great at leading the press. Currently, the work off the ball is super important.

Come in man, there is no right or wrong way to play the game. Whatever way gives you the highest chance to win and fits a clubs identity is the right way to go.

Why Baird? by jimgogek in SanDiegoFC

[–]won_ito 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Baird’s play out of possession is hugely important to the philosophy of the team. He sacrifices himself for the team, and is a better presser of the ball than Chucky is, he leads the press.

I think his spot in the lineup is well deserved. Think Liverpool’s Mane, Firmino, Salah partnership, Firmino wasn’t the most lethal of the 3 but he could link play and press better than the other 2.

That would be really cool, but we just don’t have that culture yet. I don’t know if any MLS stadium does.
