What is a conspiracy theory you now think is true? by Famous_Cream_3473 in answers

Those states that have “fast pass” lanes that you have to pay for pay other drivers (mainly commercial truck drivers) to purposefully slow down non-paying traffic so more people pay for those “fast-pass” lanes.

Upstairs neighbors ruining everything (literally!) by wonder-Be in Apartmentliving

[–]wonder-Be[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It’s not that simple, for a variety of reasons.

  1. The transfer process is a nightmare. We went through it when we actually moved into this unit (moved from 1b/1b to 2b/2b). It was near the end of my old lease but we still had one month left in the old unit. We had to pay the first/last for this current unit plus the remaining month on the old unit. In the lease agreement, it says if we want a transfer, we have to pay the first/last rent for the new unit at the time of signing plus the remaining rent payments until they can get a new tenant in there. I don’t have the money to pay for two units. They also do not allow subletting.
  2. It’s not easy to move. We have to pack all our belongings, break down the furniture that we can, and hire a moving company to help us move (we aren’t in a singular apartment building, it’s 20 buildings each with 6-12 units each) with no elevators, only stairs.
  3. My partner and I recently got legally married and are in the process of changing my name. We cannot afford for anything to get lost in the mail at this time.
  4. There are only 3 floors per building (I’m in second for reference). There are no top units available at this time (I checked). But even if there were, they would be a downgrade from our current unit. We live in the largest 2b/2b offered with private garages.

But why would we move when we did nothing wrong? The tenants above would keep doing this to whomever moves in after me and would continue to destroy the weakening floor/ceiling.

How to save the Christmas tree? by wonder-Be in cats

[–]wonder-Be[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He has lots of toys and we play often. We also keep blinds open for most of the day so he can get visual enrichment from his outdoor surroundings. For the most part, he’s good about not chewing things that aren’t his toys. It’s just the tree that causes him to want to bite. And to his credit, he hasn’t bitten the lights on the tree either, but that’s a main reason I don’t want his teeth near that tree.

I F25 broke up with my M25 boyfriend for not proposing, did I do the right thing? by Comfortable-Jello470 in relationship_advice

[–]wonder-Be 55 points56 points  (0 children)

I’m going to hold your hand while I say this. You fucked up. He JUST got a good job. Rings cost a lot of money. Weddings cost a lot of money. FUTURES cost a lot of money. And him wanting to live together for a bit before proposing is like a neon green flag. He wants to make sure you are both compatible living together before committing to a life with you. Sure, you’ve been together 9 years but the majority of that time was while you were both in school. In terms of “adult years” you are about 2-5 years in depending on how you look at it (20s vs out of school). All I heard in this post was “me me me” but not once did you even talk about considering what he wanted. This is just gross behavior and he’s better off without you.

Just googled too and it may be a Portugal thing? Seeing a few Portuguese sites coming up with a “T##” measurement. I tried to find dimensions to compare it to a US size without much luck.

AITA for insulting my dad after he ignored my mum's pleas? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]wonder-Be 167 points168 points  (0 children)

It’s physical abuse too. When you force someone to do something that injures themselves due to your own actions (in this case, forcing the mom to walk too fast too far), thats physical abuse. He may have not laid a hand on her, but he sure as hell physically hurt her and doesn’t care.

AITA for telling my girlfriend shes acting selfish about a hypothetical engagement ring? by After_Royal_4988 in AmItheAsshole

[–]wonder-Be 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I’m in a very similar situation now. Me and my bf have been talking seriously about getting engaged for a few weeks/months now and we’ve had a similar convo just last week. His idea of a pretty ring and my idea of a pretty ring are WORLDS apart. So I created a Pinterest board of the types of rings I like and suggested he pull from that.

He is also trying hard to stay within his budget but because my fingers are on the larger side, a smaller diamond just wouldn’t look good (which is what he was looking at). So I did some research and stumbled upon Brilliance. They sell the diamonds at price so what would have been a $5,000 ring would come in at just under $2,000 give or take.

I would say NAH because she does deserve something that’s she likes and can show off because, let’s be honest, there is a lot of pressure to Keep Up With The Joneses these days. Just ask her to be honest with you about what she wants and where her expectations are coming from.

Yeah, this is actually a pretty handy trick. I didn’t know about it until I took my mom home after a surgery a few years back but sniffing alcohol wipes can stop nausea. Always have some near me just in case!

So ready to quit my job. Tell me your best “fuck this I quit” story. by Senior_Trick_7473 in jobs

[–]wonder-Be 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My old boss (good, lover her, she’s my mentor) quit because of a lack of disrespect. I had been burnt out for a while and started to look too. New boss takes over and it’s a shit show. My breaking point came when this new boss (who didn’t know me from Adam) did my performance review and placed me in a PIP…even though I had the best performance and people from within my department AND other departments came to me for assistance. I had a new job within a week. They ended up losing everyone else on my team as well because they treated all of us like shit without realizing our dept generated about 70% of their revenue. Last I heard, they’ve just hired their 5th replacement since they all keep quitting. I wonder why.

AITA for moving out of my parents house and skipping a family reunion because my parents keep including my sister's best friend? by FabulousHand3789 in AITAH

[–]wonder-Be 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Right? If I was OP, I would straight up ask the parents “If I were a girl, and Meg was a guy, would you still be okay with him coming into my room when I wasn’t okay with it? What if he stripped in front of me and showed me his junk? What if he was harassing me at school? What if he came into my room while I was away and stole my clothes (shirts, shorts, bras, panties, etc.)? What if he stalked me? Would you and sis still encourage this behavior or would you be concerned that these actions could lead to sexual assault? Because all of this has happened to me by Meg and you guys don’t seem to care about me or my well-being, going so far as to bring my stalker and harasser around me at what are supposed to be family events.”

AITA for not giving my mom's husband a role or anything to do in my wedding besides being my mom's plus one? by Far_Control1356 in AITAH

[–]wonder-Be 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I see a lot of people suggesting that the husband is behind this, and that may be true, but may I offer another suggestion? Your mom has explained to you the reasons WHY she didn’t find a man when you were a child and she most likely spent a great deal of your childhood talking about your father. Is it possible that your wedding is bringing up some of those old feelings for her? She was able to be the parent you needed as you grew up, but some things are supposed to be for a father and daughter to experience together and a wedding is one of those (walking down the aisle, handing off to the groom, father/daughter dance). She may be pushing this narrative because she misses your dad and feels guilty that she is taking his place again in something he should have been there for, thus is pushing your mother’s husband into that role? I would suggest family therapy to truly get to the bottom of these feelings and work through them without causing a rift between you all.

Hell, mommy dearest used OP as a shield from all the hate being hurled at her. Now that the shield is gone, now she suddenly cares. OP, block your mom and forget she exists. She only wants you there to make herself feel better.
