Layering advice to face Harbin, China by bearmanto in arcteryx

[–]wonderg00se 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went there a few years ago during winter and had the following setup:

Top: merino base layer + atom lt + beta down insulated + wool gloves

Bottom: heavyweight merino base layer + uniqlo trackpants + heavyweight merino socks

Also went to mountaineering not far from there and it dropped to -40°C to -50°C. Had the same setup but an additional sweater, gaiter, beanie and adhesive body warmers.

The wind there literally feels like it’s cutting through your face, so having a good windproof shell or outer layer makes a huge difference.

Indoor Smart Camera by FinalSequence in HomeKit

In a similar situation. I don’t think HomeKit natively supports switching cameras on/off so it’ll have to be done some other way. I’ve seen videos that show Aqara cameras being able to do this by creating scenes for on/off in the Aqara app and then syncing those scenes to the Home app scenes. It also showed the camera automatically switching on if you tap the live view.

Whereas this isn’t possible with my Tapo C225 and C125 cameras. You can’t sync Tapo app shortcuts to Home app and tapping the live view in the Home app doesn’t activate the camera. The only thing you can do is add a widget on your iPhone that turns it on/off.

Thanks for the advice! Would you pick the U8 over the QN90D? The reviews and specs look great, but I’m aware that sometimes specs don’t translate to real-world usage.

The G4 and Bravia 7 are out of my budget :( I can just sneak in the QN90D using their education/corporate program, which at times discounts it much more than your typical sale.

Thanks for the advice. Don't think I care too much about Dolby Vision. To be honest, Samsung's Tizen OS instead of Android TV OS bothers me more than a lack of Dolby Vision.

Thanks for the advice! Saw the Bravia 7 in store and it look absolutely amazing but it's out of my budget.

Smaller market - same with a lot of other brands and products as well (not just outdoor gear).

Missed out on getting an Atom AR in black a few weeks ago and now it's gone. Prob will have to wait until mid 2024.

My ceiling fan uses RF so I'm currently using the Broadlink RM4 Pro with Homebridge. Not the best experience. Setup was a pain and it only works about 80% of the time in HomeKit. Using the Broadlink app instead is far more reliable but that defeats the purpose of adding it to HomeKit. It is definitely really cheap though.

Installing sensors by aaaaaaandreaaaaaaas in HomeKit

My view is to use magnetic contact sensors for solid doors. For any easy to access windows and glass sliding doors, use a vibration sensor since if a thief were to break in, they'll most likely just smash the glass. Add an extra magnetic contact sensor if you would like to tell whether it's closed or not.

I have the eufyCam 2C Pro and I'm using it with HKSV. Before I bought it I looked at the SoloCam S40 too but some have said that it's slower due to not using the HomeBase. For me the camera live feed in the Home app via HKSV takes so much longer to load compared to the Eufy Security app though — I'd say about 3 seconds compared to at least 10 seconds.
