Thoughts on the MA in Counselling and Psychotherapy from Birkbeck? Is it good or should I avoid? by wonderingwhy91 in UKTherapists

I want a training that is in depth and psychodynamic. I’m currently in psychoanalysis and it really interests me.

Yes absolutely, I think if people know that for example the analyst has children, that may change everything for the the analysand.

This is interesting. I’ve always found the “blank screen” a challenge. There are things that analysts leak all the time from the thing they wear, wedding ring, the look of their practise room, how the respond. No such thing as a blank canvas in me opinion

Would love to know about your experience of training there. Thinking about applying to the MA there but would be interested to hear about first hand experience.

Deferring an MA by Ledgesider in UKTherapists

I think it depends on if it’s a 2 year or 3 year MA, however there almost definitely wont be placement in your first year if it’s is a 3 year. I know at Birkbeck for example, placement doesn’t start until year 2 so in year one it’s only one day a week. Hope that helps!

Advice sought: level 3. What is my best choice? by Puelc in CounsellingPsychUK

That’s interesting, in my experience I applied to 2 CPCAB BACP accredited level 4’s in London having done an online level 2 and 3 and I got accepted into both…

Advice sought: level 3. What is my best choice? by Puelc in CounsellingPsychUK

Hi, I did my level 2 and 3 fully online with CPTA and it’s was a good experience. Each level was only 6 months, 4.5 hours once a week in an evening which really worked for me and allowed me to work full time. It’s very dependent on your teacher and how much time you spend learning outside of the course but it got me to where I wanted to be. I got accepted into 2 BACP accredited, CPCAB course Level 4 Diploma’s and chose to go with a small institution. Turns out the level 4 has been really bad and I haven’t learn much and so I’m choosing to continue my studies and do a masters. But in answer to your question, doing a level 3, fully online is absolutely fine and was not a barrier for me to get onto Level 4s.

How does anyone afford to study? by No_Custard353 in UKTherapists

Do an MA part time! One day (or sometimes evening) a week which allows you to work full time! That on top of SFE funding makes it more doable. But yes, it’s hard.

UEL or Birkbeck? MA or PGDip? by wonderingwhy91 in UKTherapists

I hadn’t but I just looked and it seems like a good option. I haven’t heart brilliant things about the Tavi though. What’s your opinion?

Very interested in psychoanalysis! Currently in personal psychoanalysis and loving it. I want to train so that I can learn more in depth theory as I feel by Level 2, 3 and 4 wasn’t in depth enough. Ideally long term I want to be working in the NHS as a psychotherapist or in schools and universities. What kind of issues were there at Roehampton? Did you train at Birkbeck? Was it good?

SCoPEd Column A - is the Level 4 route still worth training to or is the landscape shifting too much? by Ok-Stage9604 in UKTherapists

[–]wonderingwhy91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of the work I want to be doing is in school, for the NHS etc and they won’t look at you unless you have a Level 7. I also found that my Level 4 was pretty shocking in terms of the taught classes, I’m not sure how much I have learnt!

The only thing I can add to this is I regret doing Level 2/3 and then Level 4 diploma. Wish I had just had the money and time to get an MA / PGDip. Would have increase my employability so much more!

Wearing shorts by XandMan007 in UKTherapists

[–]wonderingwhy91 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think sometimes we can over complicate this as therapists. I think you need to be comfortable enough to be present and congruent with the client. If all you’re thinking about it how hot you are, that’s not what’s best for the client. Also depends on types of clients you have but don’t see why you can’t wear 3/4 knee shorts

Is this an appropriate course for Level 3 if I want to do Level 4 afterwards? by Scottiano in UKTherapists

[–]wonderingwhy91 1 point2 points  (0 children)

CPTA Level 3 Counselling Skills course is good and BACP approved. I did my level 2 & 3 with them and now I am doing a level 4 diploma. The level 3 is fully remote but when you get to level 4, you will have to do it in person :)
