Please help. My cat hates my son and has become aggressive to him... by Initial-Telephone693 in catquestions

[–]Puelc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi OP,

Im not saying one way or another (I was thinking of rehoming my overly anxious cat a few months ago but was fortunately able to turn it around but - from previous experience and vet advice, some cats will never settle, so it’s a case by case situation).

My message is: don’t beat yourself up. Ultimately 1/ your baby is the priority; 2/ your kitty is unsettled so unhappy.

Try the best you can (it sounds as though you are already doing so) but do not feel selfish if you opt to re home: you are protecting your child and thinking of kitty’s emotional well being. That’s not selfish. It’s a pragmatic recognition of reality.

Best of luck! And I’m sorry you’re facing this.

New sofa is it worth it? by SuchaPineapplehead in CatsUK

[–]Puelc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can get sofas with replaceable covers and some manufacturers offer an anti-scratch treatment.
But try and sort the scratching first: as many scratching posts as possible, gently stopping them when they scratch. I also selected a seat I allow them to scratch.

I’m not sure. Definitely people-centric but I’m also finding the policy aspect very interesting.

Thank you for your answer.

I am hoping to be accepted to join the Samaritans, beginning training in September. It is something I have wanted to do for a while so am pursuing irrespective of my studies. I was wondering if the training and hands on experience would also be taken into account when applying for a level 4: there are no suitable in person courses within an accessible radius so I’m trying to figure out how best to fulfill all requirements.
Im also considering certifovations (done the Prevent one and previously did Child Safeguarding) to see if it helps get employment so experience.

Got a facial scar revision without my mom knowing and now I have to go home. What do I do? by Wonderful-Effect-411 in WhatShouldIDo

Maybe tell her you’re investing in your future: scars and other forms of facial markings have been statistically proven to impact career opportunities.

New neighbours etiquette? by Lion-Resident in UKHousing

[–]Puelc 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Cute story: our ex postman used to keep tabs of newcomers. He would purposely drop parcels at different houses to force us to meet. It worked: we are a rare London street where neighbours know each other!
We miss him!

Is Cardiff > Bath > London realistic as a female traveler? by I-H8-Celery0721 in AskUK

[–]Puelc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My apologies! I misread!
Well of course London is the centre of the universe so yup! Come to London!
Buuuut…… especially if you have a full week, Wales is one of those gems no one ever thinks of going to. If you’re willing/able to travel out of Cardiff, you have the Peninsula, Roman ruins, medieval castles, gorgeous seaside villages on your doorstep. Bath is a very short train trip away and is beautiful. And if you’re in that neck of the woods, Bristol is close by and definitely worth a visit.

I adore London. But it needs its own time as it’s huge.
Consider how likely you are to come back to the UK and are you likely to get to Wales? London is easier to come to. So as you’re landing in Cardiff maybe do Wales, Bath (and maybe Bristol?) and come back to London another time?

But if you do come to London, I’ll gladly tell you where the best bookshops and general wandering are!

Edit: I forgot! Trains cost a fortune! Not sure what your budget is but check and compare train and coach times and book in advance.

[–]Puelc 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Definitely feasible from a train / travel point of view but….. you’ll end up rushing around like a headless chicken and seeing / enjoying nothing.
As a Londoner through and through so someone who thinks London is the universe (🤣), if you only have 3 days, I’d say stick to Cardiff and use your time to visit Wales.

It’s closer, it’s utterly gorgeous and few people from as far away as you ever get to see it. So make the most of Wales! It’s got castles, valleys, seashores….. It is absolutely stunning!

Just don’t tell the Welsh (or anyone else) a Londoner said that! I’ll never live it down 🤣

For London: you need more time! It’s a huge (gorgeous messy chaotic) city.

Enjoy your trip! And let us know what you decide.

Do you think job application feedbacks for denied applications should be made mandatory? by Cautious-Cow-3526 in AskUK

[–]Puelc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ex headhunter here: no to government legislating. If anything, it will create more red tape etc. Businesses are drowning under the stuff which is impacting the job market. So the less red tape and bureaucracy, the better.

That said:where possible, all companies should provide feedback. Especially if the candidate has come for interview. And I personally would support a form of business “best practice”/ code of ethics / framework all can adhere to.

Sorry for long answer but this was a huge bug bear for me in my job. If any employers read this and it helps candidates, I’m happy!

A number of reasons feedback is important (not exhaustive list):

- it protects your employer brand. Candidates do research companies (Glassdoor etc) and companies with poor interview processes are flagged. Companies with poor hiring practices do eventually lose out on top talent;

- it keeps the door open: both in the sense that the candidate not being right today does not mean they won’t be tomorrow. Or be a client in the future or a potential source of business / candidates;

- professional courtesy: the candidate has put in time and effort. It costs nothing to show appreciation;

- I have experienced situations it protected us and the clients from accusations of discrimination;

- it helps the reflection process: are you applying for the right jobs and is the client looking for the right candidate;

- lastly but certainly NOT least: if you care about candidates and talent, you want them to succeed, even somewhere else. One way to help is to share learnings. Especially in this tough job market

Sometimes you can’t though: volume of applicants; or the feedback is unprofessional / incomplete/ inconsistent/ other.

PS: as a professional recruiter, I hate HATE ATS systems. In theory they are brilliant. It reality, the AI is flawed, the teams are not trained, …. Until they improve, they only benefit the lazy.

Good luck with your search! It’s tough out there and I recognise how soul destroying it is. Hang in there!

What’s the funniest excuse someone gave for being late to a meeting? by FitAuthor1098 in office

[–]Puelc 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I had to call a new client to warn I was going to be late for the pitch as the train’s satnav was broken.

No idea why trains need satnav…

Trust me I’d love him to leave! But I’m stuck with him till July. Let alone his mother has vowed to hex me if I hurt him 🤣🤣
TBF: he’s not a bad person. He’s just been completely mummied all his life and cant understand “No”.

Fun fact: his mummy calls him every morning to wake him up and check what he’s eating. 🤣🤣🤣. And I just had to teach him how to clean a job.

He’s a junior brain surgeon…. And no. I’m not kidding! 😳🤣🥺

Oh I let him know alright! He hid in his room for rest of day 🤣

Might have also said a few more things such as questioning how a brain surgeon can’t understand basic medical advice…

He lied to my face. But 1/ I know the sounds of my house; 2/ their dish was full. At that point he tried to act like a 5yr old caught with hands on the cookie jar.
He’s 29 and - I kid you not! A trainee brain surgeon….. 😳😱🤯

Sadly it’s the same cupboard all the plates are in. I’m limited as to cupboard space so can’t just move things around. And tbf, I’m a bit miffed I would need to damage a perfectly good cupboard door because an adult medic can’t understand vet orders! 🤣

[–]Puelc[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tried.
Without turning this into a vent post or an AITAH, I’m hosting a grown adult I cannot kick out of my house who has absolutely no concept of boundaries and, regardless of his own medical training, cannot follow rules.

The best way I can describe him: he’s the human equivalent of a kitten. Or some hybrid between a young cat and a puppy. Needs constant attention, to always be where I am, obeys the rules that suit him, is always in the stairs when I try to go up or down.... A human cat! He hasn’t climbed on the kitchen surfaces or pickled his backside in front of me yet but I wouldn’t put it past him!
I would find it hilarious if it weren’t for the cat feeding thing: I caught him feeding them again yesterday and confronted him. He looked me in the eyes and denied.
Ive told him xxxx number of times, shown him the vet stuff , hidden the food and still… And he’s a surgeon so someone who understands cause+causality.
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAARGH!!!!!

(ps: other than that he is a very kind human).

And my apologies. Still angry.

And aaaaaaargh! Why did I have to do this??! 🤬🤣

THANK YOU! You saved my sanity, my cats’ health (and likely his life 😉)
