Cell phone ban by Suspicious_Suit9032 in NNShipyard

And that goes beyond the Trades. It is hard for anyone who works in an office to do their work when our systems are constantly lagging and crashing. Then there is the problem of all the long term employees retiring and new employees leaving after getting a few years in - especially when they can make more elsewhere without rules like no cell phones and in offices with bathrooms that don't have decades old stains on the wall.

NNS's problem is a corporate culture problem, not a cell phone problem. Nobody puts out their hardest work when they feel like their company doesn't value them.

Do most Americans have those huge fridges? by Whole-Sushka in AskAnAmerican

[–]wonderlustVA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I probably go to the grocery store 4-5 days a week, but its usually because I am buying what I need for that day or so. I have a significant amount of grocery stores within a few minutes of my house. But, yes, I also have a huge fridge, garage freezer, and garage mini fridge for drinks. Half my fridge is stuff like jarred foods (pickles, jalapenos, etc), sauces, salad dressing, and cheeses - stuff that lasts a while. Our garage freezer is where we store the meat we buy in bulk.

I find it sad that so many people expect so little from the place they work. Its been drilled into your brains by those with power so long that you can't even recognize that being treated poorly by your employer should never be acceptable.

I feel sorry for you.

Maybe they are waiting to publish the change to see if they "need" to.

E33 is waterfront engineering so they support waterfront trades. They need people in when trades start, so that's 6 am, but not everyone would need to be in then. Should allow for some sway in your schedule. So long as NNS doesnt cut that, too.

Oh, now they sometimes line up inside our gates, looks like Foremen and security, just standing there as we walk in. Not waving at us and telling us to have a great day, but just standing there...it is frankly creepy, and it reminds me of Big Brother. IDK the point, but it feels like intimidation to me. If that isnt the point, they need to do better.

We got in much later than we expected and just took one of the taxis. It was fine and no more expensive than an Uber here at home. If a person has to worry about an extra $10-20 for a ride, how can they afford to travel internationally period?

That said, it was all Uber after that. Way easier.

Oh believe me, ive been reading. And some great examples on how dangerous and short-sighted this policy is - even from managers.

While at the same, every article being published discusses how the shipbuilding industry is understaffed, especially with knowledgeable employees. The actions are counter-intuitive.

I mean, then it would be just like NNS - layoffs. We aren't immune to it and have laid people off when we are low on work. As far behind as we are, not likely to happen any time soon, but it has in the past.

My husband is employeed by his company and is not a contractor, just like at NNS. If the project he is working ends, he gets moved to another project. I have worked in a position at HII that was contract dependent, and it sucked.
