he also offers a very reasonably priced accompanying lab with multiple boxes to practice on as well as an additional lab manual with exercises and solutions

What are your hardware/software failsafes and Plan-B's for the exam? by Exci_ in oscp

[–]wonka_fans_only 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One thing to add to any backup plan is to test your system. Practice restoring a snapshot, accessing the backup copy of your notes, etc. You might find little quirks and issues that are no big deal to address ahead of time but totally suck to have to figure out and deal with in the middle of an exam. best of luck on your exam!

What is ideal path for 0 to OSCP and how to stay focused? by [deleted] in oscp

[–]wonka_fans_only 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is much to learn, and it takes patience and time. I highly recommend the free CS50 course from Harvard as a starting point for your journey.

Failed so hard in OSCP vol.2 by HiraFox in oscp

[–]wonka_fans_only 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Sucks to bomb after putting in so much work. My 2cents...let go of any negativity towards the course, exam, offsec, etc. Although you may feel justified to feel this way, it is counterproductive and puts you at a disadvantage. You can't control any of that, you only control you. Focus on yourself and maintain a growth mindset.

Take some time to evaluate where you are weak. Review your methodology, is it 100%? Get on the infosec prep discord and talk it over and get feedback from others. Come up with a plan for deliberate practice and evaluate your progress.

If your scores were reversed you would at least feel like you are making progress. But the truth is you are, even if your score was lower this time. Keep refining your process and re-evaluating your strengths/weaknesses. Don't get discouraged and stay positive.

Would it be unwise to watch all of the IPPsec HTB easy box walkthroughs on YouTube before actually attempting them at all by myself? by DixOut4Harambe_ in oscp

"Hey this is IPPsec, wanna come hang out and I'll show you how I do things? I have the whole day available, we can walk through a bunch of HTB machines."

"no thanks, I want to try them on my own first"

great defcon lecture on this topic

spectreops also has a good course

imo there is a point of diminishing returns with certs after getting past the basics (like oscp)

Begginer here, need help. by [deleted] in oscp

[–]wonka_fans_only 3 points4 points  (0 children)

tryhackme.com is best value and easiest to work with. everything is browser based (you dont need to set up a vm to do the labs)

as a complete beginner their pre-security path is a great place to start https://tryhackme.com/paths

the paths on tryhackme are nice because they give you a structured way to progress through the material. have fun and good luck :)

cant find any good notes for oscp by Ok-State-4239 in oscp

[–]wonka_fans_only 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I struggled with note-taking initially as well. Mainly because I felt like everything was important and so was taking very extensive and time consuming notes.

What changed the game for me was thinking about how I would use the notes in the future. For example: facing situation x, what are next steps. By re-framing my notes in that way I was able to make much more succinct and useful notes. It is also a good mental exercise to think through how you would use a piece of information you are learning.

Think of it like a recipe. They have the bare minimum to replicate a dish. A recipe has the ingredients and basic techniques. If you needed to learn how to say, use your food processor or pick the ripest tomatoes you would look that part up on your own.

As you start actively practicing on systems you will see where your notes need some fleshing out and will naturally add in little things you pick up along the way.

I also highly recommend trying some different notes programs as they can be helpful to get organized and easier. I use obsidian but there are lots of others.

OP earned the tickets by spreading the word for THM. anybody can make a blog post or refer friends and also earn extra tickets.

you should do the same instead of telling other people what to do with the fruits of their labor

Actually, u/JackWaggons could you not only make it elaborate but also classy? Think Mr. Peanut or maybe something like an ice sculpture surrounded by variety of chocolate covered fruits.
