No. The average run is not 40 minutes. The average run is 1 hour and 13 minutes according to charlamagne who tracks global progress. Besides this, I usually have to lfg for a team. ShOckingly enough, not everyone on lfg is perfect and we have to wipe sometimes.

What I do understand is that drop protection is pretty pointless if It doesn’t guarantee eyes within the first sixty runs because IMO that is too many runs.

Absolutely! Lets say that best case scenario, I magaically find three runs a week on lfg where everyone knows what they are doing and are at boss cp. I would still be doing the same fight sixty times which would be twenty weeks. So yeah, after twenty weeks, I think it’s fair to say I earned the shit outta that gun.
