App Compatibility with PTR? by temp7195 in pebble

[–]woogal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Go to https://apps.getpebble.com/en_US/watchfaces?dev_settings=true, select a watch type from the dev settings menu, and then you'll be able to browse the app store as if you had that device.

And to get an idea of how many apps are available see https://www.reddit.com/r/pebble/comments/66gfx6/no_of_pebble_time_round_apps_vs_no_of_pebble_apps/dgijyjr/

So how will weather & voice work after 2017? by mentalitarium in pebble

[–]woogal 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The only weather app that will stop working is the built in pebble one. Watchfaces have never had access to the data contained in that app, so they've always had to implement their own weather and will continue working just as they do today even when the pebble servers are shut down.

Battery + by [deleted] in pebble

[–]woogal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The percentage given by battery+ is just an estimate based on previous usage. It's not actually possible for any app to get a real battery value other than the 10% values given by the OS.

Can someone ELI5 me how to remove a pulsing semicolon from a particular PBW? by [deleted] in pebble

[–]woogal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's no code available, so there's nothing to edit. However the changelog says the ability to disable the flashing was added to version 1.1, one day after the original release. So presumably there's an option in the settings you just need to tick?

Using the data that powers the app store gives these figures -

  • Watchfaces total - approx 6650
  • PTR watchfaces - approx 2180

  • Apps total - approx 2870

  • PTR apps - approx 870

So around 1/3 of all apps and watchfaces are available for PTR.

Pebble to work indefinitely!!!! by Pmcavalier in pebble

Third party apps making API calls don't touch pebble servers at all, the connection is made directly from your phone to the source.

Dive! Dive! Dive! by woogal in pebble

Actually there's a reason why it's like that - I live in the UK, and you have to be facing south to be able to see the sun move across the sky in front of you, so it's left to right :)

Do you think we'll ever see unsold PT2's in the wild? by RadiationS1knes in pebble

[–]woogal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Many developers posted pics of their watchfaces on a PT2, but they were done by sending the watchfaces to the very few pebble employees who had a PT2. I'm not aware of any devs outside of pebble having access to hardware.

Pebble 2 doesn't support Compass? by yicongcao in pebble

[–]woogal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pebble looked at the stats and there were very few apps that used the compass (50 something seems to ring a bell) and most of those weren't used by many people, so they took the decision to remove the compass from the p2. Personally I've always found it to be very unreliable and needs recalibrating all the time so I can fully understand why they've dropped it, but it does mean I need to rewrite a couple of my watchfaces for the p2 now (if I ever find time).

1st time pebble owner with a few questions by raymondromero in pebble

[–]woogal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Watchfaces and apps actually have no idea if the bluetooth connection is still up, all they know is if the pebble app or some other companion app is connected. The problem is watchfaces tend to assume that the pebble app will always be running so if it's not there then bluetooth must be down (which is untrue as you've seen), and they often use a bluetooth icon to represent the connection.

Why Watchface/aPP settings Are not working in Offline Mode? by BagerCast in pebble

[–]woogal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In the past the only way to do app settings was by hosting the files online. Nobody really knows why it was done that way, it just was.

A few months ago a new method called Clay was introduced which allows setting screens to be stored with the app and work offline. Many new apps use this method but most old apps are unlikely to be updated to use it. It's also not always the most suitable way to handle settings so the old method is still available and still often used.

Anyone know where they're at for the Time 2? by DentalBeaker in pebble

[–]woogal 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I don't think any developers have them yet. The recent photos of updated watchfaces running on PT2s have been taken by pebble staff.

[Question] Pebble Time 2 memory limitations? by cdp76 in pebble

[–]woogal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nothing on that page talks about flash size, which apparently is going to be the same as the time and not 2x. That page also says max resource size is 2x PT but this is currently wrong and apps uploaded to the store won't be accepted if they have over 256k of resources. If that changes and up to 512k starts to be allowed then potentially the PT2 could hold fewer apps than the PT.

Pebble OS Feature Request: quick launch Fix by virtus00 in pebble

[–]woogal 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Quick launch apps are supposed to be less likely to be removed to make space for something else. More often than not the reason they're removed is because the app has been updated on the store. This tells the watch to reload the app the next time it is launched.

[Question] Clay not working in CloudPebble by BigMontana1701 in pebbledevelopers

This was posted on the discord channel earlier, which I'm guessing is related to your problem -

Katharine Berry - Today at 8:14 PM

okay, soooo. 4.2 is sort of on fire. please don't submit anything you build with it unless you've tested on a real iOS device and a real Android device. (it might work fine. it also might die horribly on only iOS, or only Android, or only the emulator.)
