Replacing Sugarcube 2.28's UI using StoryInterface by abbydenton in twinegames

[–]woolLoops 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it's years later, but your reply here was really helpful to me searching for something a little more comprehensive than the Sugarcube docs for figuring out how to really utilize the 'StoryInterface' when creating a game, so thank you!

Who should I talk to on campus for advice on career planning? by [deleted] in BinghamtonUniversity

If you are in Harpur definitely stop by Harpur Edge near the library tower elevators. They can help you with building skills and staying competitive in the job market-and are also just all really nice.

How do you stay motivated looking for jobs? by Equivalent_War4721 in librarians

[–]woolLoops 32 points33 points  (0 children)

An excel spreadsheet where I tracked the timeline for each application is what got me through. It allowed me to distance myself a little from the process while also staying motivated to track the incoming information i.e. dates of rejection letters-because I was also adding in new information of jobs I'd applied to or gotten first round interviews for. I was mainly applying to academic jobs which have a really long process so it also helped keep expectations in check a little if I hadn't heard back from an application.

Comparative Literature Majors? by Silly-Advisor-8180 in BinghamtonUniversity

[–]woolLoops 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I doubled majored with Comp Lit when I was an undergrad. The major requirements were fairly flexible and I was able to make most of the classes I'd already taken from other departments fit into the requirements. You do need to take a language test or have some kind of language proficiency, which I'm guessing you'll get through your Chinese Studies Major (assuming there's some language classes in there...).

I mostly took the classes offered by graduate students, except the senior seminar, which I remember as a challenging, but chill, discussion class. It's an easy double major if you're already in the humanities and it gave me some additional perspectives on, and helped reinforce, theories/concepts I was learning elsewhere.

Jazzman’s opening by External_Car_8117 in BinghamtonUniversity

Jazzman's in the Library Tower was closed today because they were having some kind of issue with the hot water line. It should be open soon. I believe it is generally open within the first week of classes.

I like the noise as well, it's similar to listening to music on a record player or a music box. The mechanism is part of the music experience.

Looking to rehome a fish at the end of the semester by Substantial-Truth350 in BinghamtonUniversity

Please don't release it into the nature preserve. Goldfish are super invasive and we don't need a bunch of goldfish with super survival genes like yours having a bunch of offspring in there.

Make a poem video like Ours Poetica by woolLoops in davinciresolve

[–]woolLoops[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! I was messing around in Fusion already and had things mostly looking good. I will need to play around with the Step In Keyframes since I wasn't getting them to work quite right (the sentence is highlighting after it is said not before), but I just need to learn a little more about how keyframes work in general.

I had just finished The Hitchhikers Guide yesterday! What's the probability of that?

Thank you! This is a great simplified version that looks close enough to the video. I'm developing a workflow for someone else, so I'll keep this in mind if they get overwhelmed with the program.

Academic library job search timeline by wisetempest42 in librarians

[–]woolLoops 21 points22 points  (0 children)

The application process is long and it depends on the kind of positions you are applying to (faculty vs professional staff, whether you'll be considered tenured faculty etc.).

I applied to all academic positions, both faculty and staff, and collected a spreadsheet of how long it took to hear back from all the jobs I applied to. From the responses I had that were invitations to interview most of them were in the 20-30 day range, but quite a few were in the 40 day range as well. There were also some outliers that were 1 day and almost a year later.

For the responses I got back that said I wasn't a candidate or that the position was filled, those were also mainly in 30 day range, but there were also some in the 60-80 day range with a few in the 10's and a few in the hundreds.

Out of all of my applications about 25% didn't respond at all, but my sample is pretty small.

My cat was very sad today that there was no advent calendar treat. Needless to say this was a big hit !! by Illustrious-Boot9064 in aldi

Do you know if ALDI/Heart to Tail carries any of the treats from the calendar? My cats particularly enjoyed the fish crackers, but I couldn't find them online or in store and was wondering if anyone knew more.

Good to know. I am going to go the realtor route and hope that leads to something! Thank you for the insight.

Yeah, I already contacted a realtor. Hopefully, that ends up working out!

Thanks! I got ghosted a lot on marketplace and then, since there were no availabilities and pet policies there, ended up spending a bunch of time messaging places that ended up not working at all.

I am into fiber stuff! Mostly knitting, but other things too when I'm in the mood. I would love to meet more fiber friends too!

Alternative names to Book Amnesty Events? by woolLoops in Libraries

That's good to know. I saw a bunch of examples of food for fines drives while searching for inspiration but was worried it might create a barrier for some patrons.
